Our favourite rooms

The interiors at Aethos Mallorca give coastal style a contemporary edge, but with scenic mountain or sea views as each bedroom’s screensaver, we imagine your attention might turn outward. The Cliff Room with Sea View is a lovely introduction to the hotel’s indoor-outdoor design, with an alfresco tub set on the balcony for yacht-spotting and sunset soaks.

Poolside

Whether your tastes lean more sweet or salty, all palates are catered to at the outdoor infinity pool. Its cliffside, sea-ogling setting brings a saline touch to syrupy sun-drenched afternoons under a candy-coloured parasol. And you’ll find a second pool indoors at the spa for post-treatment dips.

Spa

The Balearics just got even more healing with the arrival of Aethos’ spa, a decked-out space with a sauna, sea-facing hammam, hot tub, cold plunge and indoor pool. Take your already-chilled-out state to the next level with bespoke facials, ayurvedic massages and signature full-body rituals.

Packing tips

There are two sides to the island — sporty and soigné. You’ll want swimwear that fits the bill for watersports as well as poolside photoshoots; and clip-in shoes for cycling or clip-on earrings for cocktails.

Also

Your Aethos hosts like to have a good time: its Ikat Pool Club hosts Bloody Mary-fuelled bottomless brunch every Sunday. Sometimes, they partner with Palma-based Làlia Social Club for vinyl-listening evenings.

Children

Welcome, but this Balearic bolthole is better suited to older kids. There are some connecting rooms, available on request and subject to availability.

Top Table

Bag one of Onda’s golden-hour-hued armchairs at the edge of the terrace for uninterrupted Med views.

Dress Code

In your Hunza G swimsuit for Ikat Pool Club; Castaner espadrilles, Love Brand linens and Farm Rio dresses are a better fit for dinners at Onda.

Hotel restaurant

Onda is Mediterranean inside and out: its terrace overlooks Platja Palmira and the yacht-bobbing bay, and its seasonal menus pay homage to the island with dishes designed to share. Each morning, a breakfast buffet lays out the island’s bounty, with made-to-order hot options. Come dinner, you can expect to find polished sea-sourced plates, like anchovy-topped pan de cristal, oysters with an apricot mignonette and creamy scarlet prawn rice.

For swim-fuelling fare between breakfast and dinner, swing by Ikat Pool Club, where fresh bites and cooling cocktails are ample sustenance. Every Sunday, it plays host to a bottomless brunch with free-flowing Bloody Marys and mimosas.

Hotel bar

Nikkei-inspired snacks and stellar tipples are enough of a draw to pull you upstairs to Raig Rooftop, but its sea-backdropped terrace is, quite literally, the cherry on top. Spirits remain high from sunset to late at night, with vinyl-spun beats, curated furnishings and views over the parasol-dotted pool area below.

Last orders

At Onda, breakfast is served between 7.30am and 10.30am, and dinner is 7pm to 11pm. Ikat Pool Club opens from noon to 7pm; Raig Rooftop pours from 7pm to midnight.

Room service

You can dine from a dedicated menu in your room around the clock.

Coastal Aethos Mallorca sits in Peguera, on this Balearic island’s southeastern tip, close to Port d’Andratx and a drive from Palma.

Planes

Palma’s international airport is a 30-minute drive from the hotel; staff can arrange one-way transfers from €185.

The beach is a stroll away, so you won’t need wheels while in Peguera, unless you plan on taking in further-afield beaches. The hotel’s carpark is a few minutes' drive away; its €25 a night with valet services included.

Worth getting out of bed for

Most people come to Mallorca to drop and flop — and that you can — but the island’s potential is a lot more diverse. And so, your hosts at Aethos Mallorca might recommend an olive-oil tasting at Earth-kind estate, Sonmo; a sunrise hot-air-balloon ride over Manacor, or art-and-history tour around Palma (alternatively, hit its bars and boutiques for a different type of culture). You could also ride the capital’s 20th-century wooden train to orange-tree-scented Sóller, or join the kitchen team for a Mallorquín market-to-table cooking class

Private boat charters will take you to crystal-clear coves for swimming and snorkelling, before a chef-prepared picnic on Dragonera Island. Thrill-seeking cycles scaling mountain roads up the tempo, and you can say ¡salud! to your break with an organic wine tasting at Can Axartell or rooftop cocktail at Raig

Local restaurants

Restaurante Chicos del Mar’s boho-luxe terrace sets the scene for Mediterranean plates spun with seasonal, local produce and Peruvian influences. Classic tapas and Mallorcan favourites pair well with island-grown wines at Restaurante La Campana. Family-run Restaurante La Cubita takes the owners’ Swiss-German heritage as inspiration for its spaetzle and schnitzel.

Local bars

At Beach Club Gran Folies, poolside cocktails and lingering lunches are soundtracked by the sea breeze.

Every hotel featured is visited personally by members of our team, given the Smith seal of approval, and then anonymously reviewed. As soon as our reviewers have returned from this easy-breezy hotel in Peguera and unpacked their organic wine and local olive oil, a full account of their beachfront break will be with you. In the meantime, to whet your wanderlust, here's a quick peek inside Aethos Mallorca…

Peguera, in Mallorca’s southeast, is a coastal pocket full of turquoise water, intimate calas and low-key beach bars — a set-up that’s replicated, and then some, at Aethos Mallorca.

It's clear that Med views are the star of the show, here, with windowed walls throughout suites that frame Platja Palmira in postcard-like vignettes; and in some balcony-blessed rooms, views come with sea-breeze enhancements. Fret not if you don’t have some outdoor space, you’ll get plenty downstairs — and up: the seasonal restaurant is decked out with alfresco tables and curved sofas for sunset-watching, and eye up super-yachts from Raig Rooftop, where the bar shakes up golden-hour aperitifs.

The pool’s infinity edge seamlessly blends with the sea-meets-sky horizon, and its pops of pink furnishings bring a warm contrast to your blue-as-can-be backdrop. Private boat charters, ayurvedic massages and a day-to-night ethos make Aethos Mallorca’s siren call extra hard to resist.
