Founded in 2003 by husband-and-wife team James and Tamara Lohan, Mr & Mrs Smith began as a simple idea: to create a trusted collection of the world’s best boutique and luxury hotels for like-minded travellers. Two decades later, Smith has grown into a community of more than 1.5 million members and a hand-picked edit of extraordinary stays around the world.
What’s in a name?
The name itself is a nod to the classic hotel check-in alias (Mr & Mrs Smith) once used for discreet, illicit escapes à deux. Today, it stands for seductive hotels, exceptional service and a certain style of travel.

Every hotel in the Mr & Mrs Smith collection is selected by our in-house curators for its character, style and sense of place. Our team has checked into everything from remote desert retreats and villas suspended over the ocean to city sanctuaries, tricked-out treehouses and design-led hideaways, in search of stays worthy of the Mr & Mrs Smith seal of approval. Once a hotel joins, it’s anonymously reviewed by one of our trusted tastemakers — a roster that includes names such as Philip Treacy, Dita Von Teese and Pandora Sykes. The result is a hotel collection shaped by human opinion, not algorithms.
