Mykonos’s original boutique bolthole has made its way down the shore: The Coast Bill & Coo is the even breezier extension to big sibling Bill & Coo, over by Mykonos Town. It’s steps from the shore and has its own bit of beach on Agios Ioannis, one of the buzziest stretches on a very buzzy island, with a destination restaurant encouraging the yachts to drop anchor: Beefbar has outposts everywhere from Méribel and Manama to Monaco and Milan (though it does appear in places that don’t begin with ‘M’, too). Here, regardless of what the temperature is, guests can feast on Wagyu and Kobe steaks, and platefuls of lobster pasta.

At the hotel

Our favourite rooms

They may be up a small slope (which might pose an issue after one slice of wagyu too many at Beefbar), but the suites across the road at the top of the property are superior, for their sea-facing terraces, private pools, slick neutral decor and top tech.

Poolside

You’ll be steps from the sand, but for when only dips in an enclosed space will do, head to the second-best (but still very inviting) saltwater outdoor pool between 8am and 8pm.

Spa

If you’ve overdone it on the ouzo, a Valmont spa awaits at sister property Bill & Coo in Megali Ammos. Or, requiring even less movement, a therapist can come to your suite for an in-room treatment.

Packing tips

You’ll have to compete with the supersize-sunglasses crowd, so pack accordingly.

Pet‐friendly

Hotel restaurant

Beefbar is undoubtedly one of the best restaurants on the island and luckily for guests you won’t have to venture very far to enjoy its carnivore-pleasing wares. Street food on offer spans beef (Kobe tataki and gyros, burgers and sliders, and quesadillas with summer truffle) and reef (hamachi crudo, lobster rolls, passionfruit tiradito with Szechuan pepper oil). If a scorching summer temperature doesn’t usually have you reaching for the salad, go for giant flame-grilled steaks served with Naxos potatoes or the signature Beefbar heavy-on-the-butter mashed potato, lobster pasta with cherry tomato and chilli, or wagyu bolognese. On the lighter side are kale, king crab and classic Cycladic salads. Breakfast is served in the poolside restaurant each morning, or in your suite.

Hotel bar

Stay put in your cabana on the sand and order in sundowners at the end of the day, or head over to The Coast Bar for poolside drinks. Alternatively, enjoy pre-dinner drinks at one of Beefbar's open-air seats.

The Coast Bill & Coo is on the edge of buzzy Mykonos beach Agios Ioannis, a short drive south of the island’s main Chora.

Planes

Mykonos has an international airport with seasonal direct flights from destinations across Europe. Transfers to and from the airport (drive time: 10 minutes) cost €40 a guest.

Automobiles

Wheels won’t be required for flying and flopping, and seafaring is the more popular mode of transport in the Greek islands – but if you have come by car, there’s free valet parking.

Other

Ferries dock at Mykonos port from Athens and other Cycladic isles, including Santorini, Naxos and Tinos. Hotel transfers are €40 a guest each way.

Worth getting out of bed for

The average day in Mykonos tends to be based around sunloungers, sailing and siestas ahead of that night’s party – the team at The Coast Bill & Coo can arrange yacht charters so you can drift off in search of one of the island’s famous beach clubs (JackieO’ is a classic; Scorpios a modern contender), or you can stay put on the hotel’s private patch of sand. Agios Ioannis, which enjoys a sheltered setting, is on your doorstep. It’ll likely be crowded, but if you want to see the island’s iconic windmills, a trip into Mykonos Town is a must – it’s 10 minutes by car from the hotel. 

Local restaurants

Beefbar at the hotel should probably be your first port of call, but when you’re ready to venture (slightly) further, stroll across the sound to Hippie Fish, where you can enjoy sushi, ceviche and tartares, alongside more typically Greek dishes, with a view out to Delos. For something a little more rustic, Pili is the traditional beachfront Hellenic taverna for you. 

Local bars

The Zuma outpost on the island has a rather fabulous pool area and a prime sunset-ready perch – call in here for beats, buzz and black cod.

Mykonos is as scene-y as destinations you might summer in could get, but even within this jet-set-approved holiday hotspot there’s a pecking order – and Agios Ioannis, away from the windmill-hunting crowds to be found in the Chora, is one of the island’s most exclusive enclaves. Last season, it gave the super-yachts even more reason to drop anchor: namely, the arrival of a Beefbar outpost to The Coast Bill & Coo, which brought mashed potato with an ungodly butter-to-spud ratio (we’re talking 50:50), supersize wagyu and Kobe steaks, and zingy ceviches to the passing-through boat crowd. Guests can also dine at the poolside restaurant, which is where breakfast is served each morning. The best rooms are over the road and up a slope (worth it for the views, which feature the magical isle of Delos in the distance) – these private pads are like your own villa, with a soothing cream, grey and white palette, pre-programmed lighting combinations to match your mood, and vast terraces with a pool and lots of lounging space. The May to October season couldn’t come soon enough.
