Setting

Bordering Agrari Beach

Myconican Sunrise is showcasing this party island’s serene side from its charming southern setting. Inside, classically Cycladic curves flow as freely as cocktails by the poolside bar, and the Aegean’s light-bouncing blues add a welcome splash of colour to whitewashed rooms. Your surroundings are celebrated in subtler ways, too — in the restaurant’s familial recipes, say, or your deft hosts’ knowledge of this isle’s lost-to-time nooks.

Our favourite rooms

Rooms reflect the Cyclades’ signature whitewashed style, enlivened with peering blues from the Aegean and verdant greens from the gardens. For something that strays from the neutrals, the Executive Beachfront Sea View Suite goes bold with offbeat patterns and splashes of sunshine hues. Secluded dips are on the cards in the Executive Sea View Suite with Private Pool, too.

Poolside

Between suite and sea, the curvaceous outdoor swimming pool welcomes placid dips and all-day lazing, perhaps peppered with a cocktail or two.

Spa

There’s no formal spa, but there’s an open-air hut alongside the beach, where masseurs can be called upon to perform their restorative rituals.

Hotel restaurant

With a name like Myconian Sunrise, it won’t come as a surprise that this spot serves breakfast with serious skill. Almiriki Taverna’s alfresco tables are the canvas for all-you-can-eat spreads, filled with freshly baked loaves, pastries, koulouris, Mykonian cheeses and honey-dosed bowls of Greek yoghurt. And despite the strong start, all-day dishes are equally impressive. Lunch and dinner menus are made up of the chef’s family recipes, packed with fresh Mediterranean flavours and prepared with locally sourced, seasonal ingredients.

Hotel bar

Beats are a gentle backdrop to days at the laidback Sunrise Bar, where craft cocktails, fresh juices and light Greek bites are sent straight to your sunlounger.

Last orders

Breakfast at Almiriki Taverna is 7.30am to 10.30am; lunch is between noon and 7pm, and dinner is from 8pm to 10.30pm. Sunrise Bar pours between 11am and 11pm.

Room service

Dishes can be delivered to your room between 7am and midnight.

Agrari Beach
Mykonos
Greece

In a small bay on the south side of the island you’ll find Myconian Sunrise, sitting on Agrari Beach’s sun-drenched sands and overlooking the Aegean.

Planes

Most international airports have routes straight to Mykonos, which is around 20 minutes from the hotel by car. If you’re landing into Athens, there’s a 25-minute connecting flight to the island. Private minibus transfers can be arranged from the airport (between 6am and midnight) and are included in rates.

Automobiles

Unless you’ve no plans to move from the beach, a car will come in handy on the island. There are rental booths at the airport and free valet parking on-site.

Other

Frequent ferries run from Athens’ Port of Piraeus and Rafina Port, which take between two and a half to four hours respectively. Helicopters are also available for the 30-minute transfer from the mainland.

Worth getting out of bed for

Your ambling distance to Agrari Beach’s sultry shore means pursuits are largely Poseidon inspired. There’s watersports equipment to rent, including kayaks and paddleboards, or charter a boat from Platis Gialos and head to the neighbouring islands of Delos and Rhenia for scenic swimming and snorkelling. If you’re looking for a change of scenery, but don’t want to leave the sun-soaked sands behind, board a traditional caïque and beach hop along the island’s south coast.

There’s yoga and guided meditation sessions at the hotel for those seeking additional solace; and Mykonos Town — with all its bustling beauty — is a free-shuttle-ride away.

Local restaurants

A few sandy-toed steps away, Agrari Beach Restaurant is your local hangout. Dishes are created with island-made produce and differ depending on the season, but Aegean-admiring seats and elevated Greek flavours are year-round staples. If you’re in Mykonos Town, Nōema puts an elevated spin on classic cuisine and Katrin has been riffing on trad family recipes in its taverna since 1971.

Anonymous review

Every hotel featured is visited personally by members of our team, given the Smith seal of approval, and then anonymously reviewed. As soon as our reviewers have returned from this healing hotel in the Cyclades and unpacked their spicy kopanisti and kremidopita, a full account of their on-the-beach break will be with you. In the meantime, to whet your wanderlust, here's a quick peek inside Myconian Sunrise in Mykonos…

In Greek, ‘meraki’ means putting creativity and soul into something, and at Myconian Sunrise, that’s just what’s been done. Mykonos is known to have a penchant to party, but along the secluded sands of Agrari, on the island’s south side, this reverie-inducing retreat prompts a sense of calm, instead.

Design-wise, each welcoming communal space and view-framed room is a lesson in modernity, with warm oak woods and contemporary comforts punctuating the signature Cycladic whites. But when it comes to spirit, this boutique hotel is as quaint as they come. At the restaurant, provenance informs a menu of time-honoured Hellenic fare created with ingredients fresh from the water that fronts it; yoga and meditation sessions salute your surroundings, and the on-call concierge ensures tourist-free forays to the island’s quieter spots. Even the beach bar is backed by the lulling beats of traditional Greek tunes...
