Setting

Chora Chora

Taking its name from the Greek word for ‘awe’, Deos Mykonos is your restorative gateway to this Cycladic island’s five-star lifestyle. You’re only a wander from the windmills, putting you firmly in the running for a coveted sunset seat, but this retreat doesn’t allow its central Chora locale to compromise on tranquillity. Masseurs work their magic at the spa to quell lingering woes, silence envelops sea-watching suites and Mykonian produce is championed at the award-winning restaurant.

Our favourite rooms

You’ll have a hot tub or infinity-edge pool wherever you decide to rest, but if you’re looking for sun-soaked lounging space to dry off after your dip, we’d suggest springing for the Omega Two Bedroom Residence for its sprawling terrace and living area. For those planning on spending most of their time at the hotel’s main pool, the small-but-stylish Delta Rooms make for an idyllic base.

Poolside

Pair lengths and laidback floating with sweeping sea views at the outdoor saltwater pool between 7.30am and 9pm. If you’re diving between treatments and need a quick dip, there’s a marble-clad indoor pool at the spa that's been designed to replicate the Roman baths for optimal serenity.

Spa

Summer on the Greek islands is all about falling into their lulling hold, and the hotel’s Sana Spa is here to help with any loitering stresses. Masseurs combine Augustinus Bader and Elemis products with heated tables and traditional techniques for truly restorative treatments. Top Table

Admire Poseidon’s mastery at one of the terrace’s sea-surveying tables.

Dress Code

Bring your best for evenings at Epico. During the day, effortlessly cool cover-ups are just fine.

Hotel restaurant

It’s all about island-made, seasonal fare at Epico restaurant — a minimalist, open-air eatery where plates are paired with sweeping Aegean scenes. Menus are a labour of love from head chef Ilias Maslaris, who collects all his produce each morning from the markets. To keep things as fresh as possible, dishes change daily, but expect traditional fare with a touch of modernity (feta-filled calamari, zesty dips, malagouzia-marinated sea-bass). Naturally, at breakfast, everything revolves around Greek yoghurt: whether you dose it in locally made honey or top it with just-picked fruit is up to you. Oven-warm spanakopita and bougatsa pastries make waking up all the more worth it, too.

Hotel bar

Epico’s bar is set just back from the restaurant, overlooking the infinity pool and lulling shoreline. Staff are skilled when it comes to recommendations, but we’d suggest starting with the Moonwalking in Mykonos — a punchy concoction made with Don Julio, mango, vanilla and a prosecco-infused foam.

Last orders

Breakfast is served from 7.30am to 10.30am; lunch is from noon till 7pm, and dinner is 8pm to 11.30pm. The bar pours drinks from 9pm to 1am.

Room service

Dishes can be brought to your bed as and when you please.

Address
Deos Mykonos
Mykonos Town
Mykonos
84600
Greece

Deos Mykonos is etched into a lofty hilltop on the west coast of its namesake island, overlooking the main town and port.

Planes

Most international hubs have direct seasonal flights to Mykonos’s airport, which is around 10 minutes from the hotel by car. Shared transfers are included in rates, so you won’t need to worry about finding a taxi once you land.

Automobiles

If you’re planning on exploring the island, a car will come in handy, and you’re welcome to park for free in the hotel’s private carpark.

Other

There are regular connections to neighbouring Cycladic islands during the summer season from Mykonos New Port — a five-minute drive from the hotel. Staff can arrange for someone to collect you, free of charge.

Worth getting out of bed for

Down in Mykonos Town (also known as the Chora), a five-minute walk from the hotel, designer names like Gucci and Louis Vuitton sit between small souvenir shops, family-run boutiques and local art galleries. If you’re looking for a crowd-free mooch, we’d be inclined to hit the town early. Or, lose the tourists entirely and set sail on a chartered yacht to the neighbouring islands of Delos and Rhenia. Scuba-diving sessions take you down to Paradise Reef, Paradise Point and the shipwreck of Anna II, and for anyone who’d rather stay above sea, there’s all sorts of watersports equipment to rent at the local beaches

Join hotel restaurant Epico’s head chef, Ilias Maslaris, for a morning wander around the local markets to pick fresh produce. From there, he’ll take you down to the port to collect the day’s catch, before returning to the kitchen for a Mediterranean-themed cooking class. There’s guided horseback riding from Ano Mera to Fokos Beach, too, and private teachers on hand for yoga and Pilates sessions back at base.

Local restaurants

Avoid the town’s tourist traps and head to Maereio instead. This traditional taverna, owned by twins Isidoros and Dimitris, has been serving local devotees generational dishes (their mother’s meatballs are a notable highlight) for more than 20 years. Cycladic staples are given a modern makeover at M-Eating, and dishes at inland Rizes are a deft creation of homegrown, organic produce — there’s also a cookery school, if you’re looking to dust off your pots and pans when you get home.

Local bars

Secure your sought-after seat at 180 Sunset Bar, where a waterfront terrace is hugged by the island’s pink-orange hues each evening. For dawn-till-dusk drinks and late-night DJ sets, locate a sunlounger at Kalua, over on Paraga Beach.

As soon as our reviewers have returned from this healing hotel in Greece and unpacked their sunset snaps and swimwear, a full account of their Cycladic break will be with you. In the meantime, to whet your wanderlust, here's a quick peek inside Deos Mykonos…

It was the late 1960s when Mykonos first started rallying the rich and famous, wooing high-class celebs from their love affair with the Athenian Riviera. Since then, the glitz and glamour that’s descended alongside its illustrious visitors has earned the island many a moniker — Queen of the Cyclades, for one.

But between these party-seeking crowds, you’ll still find pockets of serenity. And carved into a crag above the Chora, Deos Mykonos is one of them. This calming retreat recalls the island’s humbler roots, with locally weaved furnishings and simple, muted palettes that frame far-stretching views of the Aegean. Each room, suite and residence comes with its own alfresco space (some with infinity-edge pools, others with hot tubs for two), and its tension-releasing spa and fine-dining restaurant are equally enticing. You’re a beat from those famous windmills, too, so your taste of the modern Mykonos is never far.
