In acres and acres of private Tuscan farmland, the Cottage Casa del Lago at Borgo Pignano is a secluded stone sanctuary, ideal for couples or small families. The two-bedroom retreat is a few hundred metres from the hotel and the hamlet it occupies, offering optimum privacy alongside a few notable benefits (meals cooked for you, made using ingredients with a zero-kilometre footprint; a spa; a spectacular swimming pool carved out of a quarry…). The simple life rules: watch out over the rolling hills, stroll around the tree-surrounded lake or head to the main house for a drink in the enticingly named, fireside Gin Corner.
