The Amanpuri Nine-Bedroom Ocean Villa is a small hamlet of Thai-teak pavilions arranged around a midnight-blue pool with picture-book views of the Andaman Sea. It’s the flagship villa at the inimitable Amanpuri hotel resort, set amid coconut groves on a private peninsula of Phuket. The interiors are laden with antiques and traditional artwork – but you’ll want to be out in the warm tropical air. Explore the coast on a yacht chartered from the hotel beach club (don’t forget your snorkel), or go for a leisurely kayak or paddleboard. Re-energise with a head-to-toe treatment at the Aman spa, or re-fill at one of four restaurants. If you’d rather a night-in, your live-in chef will prepare a Thai classic, to be served in your own open-sided dining sala, looking over water.

First Glance

  • The villa is made up of several individual pavilions, built from pillars of Thai teak and topped with distinctive curling roofs.
  • Some are open-sided, for lounging and dining in the balmy, flora-scented air. Where there are windows, they’re oversized, to make the most of the views over the glittering bay.
  • The interiors combine traditional Thai features (antique statues, delicate silks and bunches of fresh orchids) with minimalist modern design.
  • Exercise in the large, sea-facing gym, or relax in front of the wall-mounted TV in the media room.
  • There’s a fully-equipped kitchen; the live-in chef will cook up Thai treats here, but you can use it too.
