Hotel restaurant

Restaurant Bazaar has an internationally influenced menu that includes authentic Italian wood-fired pizzas, fresh seafood, charcuterie and cheese boards, Asian-inspired grill stations. It’s a buffet-style affair, so there’s no need to choose between colourful salads, Malaysian curries or dimsum – make your way ‘it’s a small world’-style through it all. Do save room for the dessert bar, though, which is stacked with house-made desserts, pastries and choose-your-flavour soft serve. In the mornings, there’s a full breakfast spread of Continental and cooked classics, including made-to-order omelettes.

Hotel bar

Watch the sun set over the Remarkables as you sip your tipple of choice at Reds cocktail lounge. There’s a hefty wine list – as you’d expect in New Zealand – and a house-curated cocktail list that includes a twist on the classic mojito, the signature QT G&T, and a separate menu just for negronis. Food is available from 2pm until late, so you can snack on crinkle cut fries, dumplings, green pea guacamole, antipasto and wood fired pizzas without having to leave your mountain-view seat.

Last orders

Breakfast is served from 6am to 10am, and dinner from 6pm to 9.30pm. Reds shakes up cocktails and uncorks bottles from 2pm to 11pm.

Your in-room minibars has a schmancy gin martini kit (free for guests staying in Remarkable King rooms), Maude Central Otago Pinot Noir, and a selection of sweet and savoury treats.

Automobiles

There’s no need for a car in Queenstown, but if you’re road tripping your way across New Zealand you can park your hired steed onsite for NZ$15 a night (or NZ$30 a night for valet parking).

Worth getting out of bed for

In summer, spend a day exploring Lake Wanaka or neighbouring Lake Hāwea; or, kayak through the Milford Sounds with local guides from Rosco’s Milford Kayaks, who lead groups tours for all ability levels. In winter (mid-June to early October), hit the slopes above Queenstown: snow bunnies of all ages and abilities can zip down the slopes of Queenstown’s Coronet Peak and the Remarkables. Fancy something less adventurous? Wander around postcard-pretty Arrowtown for a day; it’s especially photogenic when the leaves change colour in the autumn. Or get a taste of New Zealand’s finest with Appellation Wine Tours; your tour will take you through Central Otago to visit boutique vineyards, where you’ll take part in guided tastings. Craft beer tours can be arranged on request, too, for those who prefer a hoppier beverage.

Local restaurants

Dive into Malaysian hawker food at Madam Woo, a casual café with bold flavours: snack on rolls stuffed with pulled sticky pork or soy-glazed aubergine, or dive into dishes of lemongrass-infused seafood coconut curry or honey-tossed squid. Make like a local and join the queue at Fergburger for, you guessed it, burgers of all sorts: take your pick from inspired choices such as the tempura-battered Codfather, the brie and boysenberry topped Sweet Bambi and the classic Ferg Deluxe – a beef patty with streaky bacon and cheddar cheese. (Breakfast sandwiches are on offer from 8am, too.) For a leisurely brunch, check out Yonder, where they serve up speciality coffee, baked-in-house goodies and morning favourites including eggs-many-ways and impressive stacks of blueberry buckwheat pancakes.
