Nomade Temple Ibiza

Style

Nature-swathed healing

Setting

Cala of the wild

Sun worshippers who make the pilgrimage to Nomade Temple Ibiza, a celestial cliff-side sanctuary in the island’s far north, soon discover that wellness is next to godliness. The resort’s cavernous spa is a subterranean sanctum, and the cloistered cala makes a solid argument for heaven being a place on earth. Stellar sunsets kick off the evening’s cosmic ballet and, as the beachfront cocktails flow, Dante’s HiFi lights the touchpaper for a disco inferno of mellow Balearic beats.

Sustainability efforts

Nomade Temple Ibiza’s ochre-coloured walls, soaring stone arches and flora-forward gardens are designed to melt into the local landscape; a low-impact approach to luxury that also extends to sustainable dining, organic waste composting and a zero-plastic policy. The resort sources produce, art and furniture from local makers where possible and collaborates with the local community on beach cleanups and other initiatives that seek to protect and preserve the native ecosystem. A musical outreach programme further consolidates Nomade's connection to people and place.

Food and Drink

Top Table

The closer you sit to the sea, the better: grab an intimate table for two for sunset dining by the water at 4fu3gos.

Dress Code

There are no specific rules on what you can and can’t wear here, but you might want to leapfrog between back-from-the-beach boho and pre-club cool, depending on your plans.

Hotel restaurant

You’re unlikely to run short of choice at Nomade Temple Ibiza. Tavla is the resort’s all-day restaurant, with kaleidoscopic cushions and Moroccan-style ceramic hanging lamps that lean into the resort’s subtle North African flavour. There’s a menu to match, starring fire-warmed breads drenched in hummus and oil, catch of the day cooked over glowing coals and a zesty pistachio, fennel and manouri salad. Ku Juu puts a Mediterranean spin on traditional Japanese omakase, with a single sitting for dinner at 9pm Thursday to Sunday; the space is quiet and intimate with each course served straight from chef to counter. As impossible to resist as it is to say, 4fu3gos arguably totes best seats in the house. Linger at this alfresco beachside chiringuito for fresh local seafood, meats and vegetables charred over the open fire, accompanied by sundowner cocktails and sea views.

Hotel bar

Dante’s HiFi is a north Ibiza destination in its own right. Taking its inspiration from old-school Japanese listening bars, its approach — hi-fidelity sound, intimate spaces, the analogue warmth of vinyl records — is a far cry from the hi-NRG superclubs in the south of the island. No Balearic bangers here; just mellow grooves that partner well with refined highballs, spritzes, cocktails, and the gentle circadian rhythms of this laidback Ibiza outpost.

Last orders

Tavla serves breakfast from 7.30am to 11.30am daily, lunch from 1pm to 5pm and dinner from 6pm to midnight. Dante’s HiFi keeps the cocktails flowing and your hips gently swaying until 2am on weekends.

Room service

Available around the clock, with a reduced menu available through the night.

Address
Nomade Temple Ibiza
Carrer Camí de sa Torre Portinatx
Sant Joan de Labritja
07810
Spain

Cascading down pine-clad cliffs to a secluded cove overlooking Portinatx Bay, Nomade Temple Ibiza lies at the island’s northernmost tip.

Planes

Ibiza Airport is at the southern end of the island, a 45-minute taxi ride from the hotel. Private transfers are available on request.

Automobiles

Though not essential, your own set of wheels will unlock more remote calas, rustic tapas joints and north-coast sunsets than you’re otherwise likely to experience. Rentals are available from the usual suspects at the airport, and you’ll find a couple of smaller operators in Portinatx. There’s free valet parking at the resort.

Other

Aerophobics, take note: getting to Ibiza by boat is a (sea) breeze. There are regular sailings from Barcelona, Valencia and Dénia as well as neighbouring islands including Mallorca and Formentera. Sailings land at ports in Ibiza Town and San Antonio on the island’s south coast.

Worth getting out of bed for

It’s all about mindfulness and personal wellbeing at Nomade Temple Ibiza. Opening soon, an eye-popping MC Escher-inspired space — the Temple — is slated to host all manner of yoga sessions, sound-healing workshops and other immersive experiences. There will also be a recording studio where musicians can lay down their own blissed-out Balearic bops. Then there are the sunset hikes, stargazing sessions, jewellery-making workshops and, well, you get the general idea. Of course, you can always just take yourself down to the beach with your towel, a pair of oversized sunglasses and an undemanding holiday read instead. Beyond the resort’s spiritual embrace, coastal landmarks including Torre de Portinatx and the whimsical candy-striped Punta Moscarter lighthouse are catnip for photographers and dreamers. The north coast’s rugged coves and impossibly scenic sea arches at Cala Xarraca and Cala d’Albarca are best reached by boat. The bohemian rural hamlet of Sain Joan, with its artisan Sunday market and gleaming 18th-century church is a 10-minute drive from the resort.

Local restaurants

Nomade Temple Ibiza’s trio of restaurants and handful of snack bars means there’s little need to wonder where your next bowl of Spanish olives is coming from. But there are several good options in nearby Portinatx, where views of craggy cliffs and bobbing yachts provide a fine accompaniment to surf and turf options at La Boca Junta and Chiringuito Cala Xuclar’s immaculately presented seafood.

Local bars

Again, Dante’s HiFi sets a rather high (ahem) bar around these parts, but the stalwart Six Senses resort next door is hard to ignore. Take doctor’s orders at its Pharmacy Bar on weeknights when Dante’s is closed. Or, for a slightly more dramatic change of scenery, Portinatx has a smattering of solid options with beguiling bay views. Order up ice-cold G&T highballs with tapas at Rebrots and sample spirited cocktails at El Cigüe.

Anonymous review

Every hotel featured is visited personally by members of our team, given the Smith seal of approval, and then anonymously reviewed. As soon as our reviewers have returned from this blissful Balearic bolthole on the island’s north coast and unpacked perfumes plucked from its souk-style bazaar, a full account of their barefoot break will be with you. In the meantime, to whet your wanderlust, here's a quick peek inside Nomade Temple Ibiza in Spain...

Nomade Temple Ibiza expresses its North African influences with a sabre-light touch: exterior walls blush pink at sunrise and sundown and modular buildings come replete with soaring stone archways, cacti and enormous terracotta pots. A souk-style bazaar displays colourful handcrafted treasures — decorative pots, carpets, cushions and more — and ceramic hanging lamps in Tavla, the main resort restaurant, are as Moorish as its Fig Noir cocktails are moreish. Tree-shaded terraces, rooftop lounges and oversized dining tables encourage social connection and evoke the intimacy of a Moroccan riad. But there’s an old-school Ibiza feel to the place, too, thanks to laidback, vinyl-only grooves in Dante’s HiFi and hedonistic dining experiences like Japanese omakase in the resort’s three restaurants. At Nomade Temple Ibiza, the true path to enlightenment is never far away. Seek it out in the spa’s subterranean caves, in the bay’s glittering waters and at the Temple, the resort's forthcoming Escher-inspired space for mindfulness, movement, movie screenings and more.
