At the hotel

House manager, rooftop terrace, charged laundry service and free WiFi throughout. In apartments: fully equipped kitchenette, TV, USB-C ports, air-conditioning, minibar, Nespresso coffee machine, tea-making kit, free bottled water, bathrobes, slippers and Amouage bath products.

Our favourite rooms

Each of the three apartments is named after a Roman god or goddess, and their interiors are fittingly divine, with marble columns, sculptures and striking views as standard. Casa Janus and Aeneas entice with their high ceilings and bright spaces, but we have a soft spot for Casa Vesta, courtesy of its quirky beamed ceilings and homey feel. Interconnecting options suit families; and for bigger groups, go for the full buy-out.

Spa

Ascend to Casa Naman’s altana and sweeping city skylines won’t be all that welcome you. You’ll also find a sauna and Turkish bath for heat-based healing, and your house manager on-call to arrange massages, fitness sessions, yoga, meditation or salon services.

Packing tips

Your camera and sense of wonderment to give this encompassing scenery the attention it deserves.

Also

For an additional charge, private chefs and butlers can be brought in to cater for your every whim and want.

Pet‐friendly

Small dogs are welcome in all apartments for an additional charge. See more pet-friendly hotels in Rome.

Children

Welcome; though designer interiors and the littlest of Smiths are not a relaxing mix. Casa Aeneas and Vesta sleep four, and adjoining options are available for larger groups. Babysitting is available for €50 an hour.

Ask nicely, and your house manager will be happy to arrange a romantic private meal up on the rooftop.

Dress Code

In the comfort of your own home, come as you are; out and about calls for all-Italian threads.

Hotel restaurant

There’s no restaurant at Casa Naman, but each apartment comes with its own kitchen. Should you fancy leaving it to the experts, private chefs can be arranged for an additional charge, or you can take your pick of central Rome’s revered restaurants.

Hotel bar

There’s nothing to stop you stocking your apartment’s fridge with bottles of Italian white, spumante and more; then you just need to decide whose turn it is to fix today’s spritzes, come aperitivo hour.

Automobiles

You won’t need a car in this central part of Rome and there isn’t any dedicated parking at the hotel. If you are bringing your wheels, there’s a carpark nearby on Via Ludovisi that charges by the day.

Worth getting out of bed for

Your very own house manager can arrange everything from breakfast and afternoon tea at beloved Babington to private Vatican tours, meditation and yoga sessions on Casa Naman’s rooftop terrace, fitness classes and massages

If you’d rather roam spontaneously, Piazza di Spagna and all its Baroque splendour is a strong starting point for getting to know your locale. You're right at the base of the Spanish Steps, so don your comfiest shoes, plonk your pennies in the ship-shaped Fontana della Barcaccia and begin your ascent to view-blessed Trinità dei Monti. Once you’ve ticked off Rome’s big-ticket sights (Trevi Fountain, Piazza Navona, Villa Borghese), make time for lesser-known spots, like The Keats-Shelley House — an ornate ode to the legendary poets.

Local restaurants

Seasonal Roman staples and a rooftop terrace draw devotees to Ristorante La Colonette, perched just beyond the piazza. Pizza in Trevi does what it says on the box — and does it well; pillowy crusts are charred to perfection and come topped with tasty, locally sourced ingredients. Sate your carb cravings with a different form at Bao Bao Spagna, where traditional buns and dumplings come filled with subtle Italian twists.

Local cafés

Trecaffè is well-loved for its rich espressos, creamy cappuccini and sweet treats; and over on its namesake street, family-run Bar San Marcello delivers equally delectable baked goods and caffeine hits.

Local bars

Make for Terrazza Nainer’s scenic top and you’ll be rewarded with refined bites, signature concoctions and panoramic views over Piazza del Popolo and Villa Borghese. Live music backtracks lively evenings at Chez Moi Rome, with inventive cocktails as your dance-inducing kick.

Every hotel featured is visited personally by members of our team, given the Smith seal of approval, and then anonymously reviewed. As soon as our reviewers have returned from this apartment hotel in Italy and settled back into la vita quotidiana, a full account of their espresso-fuelled break will be with you. In the meantime, to whet your wanderlust, here's a quick peek inside Casa Naman in Rome…

There’s an alter ego in us all — perhaps they’re a thrill-seeker, flirt or daydreamer; maybe an effortlessly elegant Italian socialite. The former trio may have to wait in the wings a little longer, but thankfully, we’ve just the place to bring your Roman persona into play.

Set in an 18th-century palazzo at the base of the Spanish Steps, Casa Naman hosts a trinity of dressed-up apartments, touting marble features and figures, curated artwork, butter-soft beds, well-equipped kitchenettes and commanding city views. Up on the altana you’ll find a small spa for all your soothing needs, and a house manager is on call to cater to your moniker’s most discerning of requests (including a private chef).

When you’re ready to showcase this new sense of self, Rome’s Piazza di Spagna is on your sultry doorstep, and there’s quite the main-character-moment waiting atop the adjacent Scalinata di Trinità dei Monti.
