Luxury holidays in Pattaya

Beach seekers and nocturnal creatures: pack your bags for Pattaya, a newly family-friendly seaside city where swish resorts adorn the palm-lined suburban coast. Forget its raunchy rep – if you haven’t explored Pattaya’s PG side, you’re missing a trick. Efforts to tame the town’s titillating tendencies have paid off, and while the pulse-pounding nightlife is here to stay in the city centre (including on its lively crescent beach), just-out-of-town Jomtien, Naklua and Ko Larn Island offer soothing sands where the more mellow crowd hang out.

When to go

For the best beach weather, aim to visit between December and April. Any later than that and rising temperatures plus rainier days can make things a little sticky. June to October is when monsoon season strikes.

Getting there

  • Planes

Bangkok’s Suvarnabhumi Airport is the closest international hub. Direct flights are available from European cities including London, Paris and Frankfurt; flights from the US usually connect via Asian cities such as Hong Kong, Beijing and Seoul. From Suvarnabhumi, it’s an hour-and-a-half taxi ride to Pattaya. If you’re coming from elsewhere in Thailand, U-Tapao Airport is another, slightly nearer, option.
  • Automobiles

Driving in Pattaya is only for the daring. Skip the car rental and leave the hectic city traffic to the locals.
