When to go

Málaga’s hottest season stretches from June to September, when temperatures reach highs of 31°C and the sea is a sultry 24°C. Each year in August, the region’s outdoor festival arrives, bringing with it street-food stalls, pop-up bars, local dancers and gazeworthy fireworks. If you’re staying in the city, visit during October to join in the Picasso-inspired festivities.

Getting there

  • Planes

    Fly directly into Málaga international airport, just eight kilometres from the city centre. If you’re heading down the coast, Costa del Sol is an hour's drive away and the inland villages are dotted throughout.

  • Trains

    Direct trains run from Málaga María Zambrano station to Torremolinos and Fuengirola. There’s also a service to Madrid, Seville and Córdoba.

  • Automobiles

    Driving in Málaga is fairly straightforward and renting a car from the airport is your best bet at avoiding taxi-induced queues once you land.
