Luxury holidays in Cleveland

Stretching along the southern shoreline of Lake Erie, Cleveland is shaking off its industrial past to become a beacon of culture, rich in urban charms. Chatter from revered restaurants tunes Downtown, and scents of freshly baked pierogies waft around its storied markets. Boundless green spaces, breezy boardwalks and national park trails offer a wealth of ways to counter the Land’s urban bustle.

When to go

Late spring brings balmy temperatures and fewer crowds, but to make the most of Cleveland’s lakeside setting it has to be June, July or August. Football enthusiasts will want to visit in September for the start of the NFL’s season.

Getting there

  • Planes

International and domestic flights from most major hubs land at Cleveland’s Hopkins Airport, which is around a 20-minute drive from the city’s central Downtown.
  • Trains

Amtrak’s Lake Shore line runs between New York and Chicago with a stop at Cleveland Lakefront Station, on the north coast harbor. You’ll also find long-haul routes up to Chicago and down to Miami from here.
  • Automobiles

There are strong public transport links around the city, so if you’re planning on staying put a car isn’t essential. For around-the-state road-trips, a set of wheels will come in handy.
