Luxury holidays in Alpe di Siusi

High in South Tyrol, Alpe di Siusi (or Seiser Alm) is an alpine pasture at altitude. Utterly remote, this montane hideaway delivers bucolic meadows, tree-lined trails and the Dolomite peaks in widescreen. Links to Val Gardena provide access to the Sella Ronda ski or cycle circuit (depending on the season); and finessed farm-to-table dining and a tradition-steeped spa culture mean the plateau’s charms aren’t wholly rugged.

When to go

This rural spot is a tale of two seasons: December through March for snow-based adventures, and June through August for summer sojourns.

Getting there

  • Planes

Bolzano Airport is a one-hour drive away; or Austria’s Innsbruck Airport is over two hours away by car.
  • Trains

Rail routes from Verona and Innsbruck call at Bolzano or Chiusa (AKA Bozen and Klausen in German), which are each less than an hour’s drive from Alpe di Siusi.
  • Automobiles

There’s limited driving access to Alpe di Siusi, which is closed to private vehicles between 9am and 5pm, so you’ll need to supply your car-registration number in advance to obtain a permit. Or keep things simple and stick to hotel transfers and taxis.
