When to go

Monsoon season in Madhya Pradesh runs from July to mid-October. The best time for safaris is November to March, when you’ll have comfortably warm weather and plenty of wildlife to spot.

Getting there

• Planes

  Flights from Indian cities including Delhi, Bengaluru and Hyderabad touch down at Jabalpur Airport, the nearest landing strip to the state’s wildlife reserves.

• Trains

  Trains arrive at Indore Junction from all over India, including Mumbai, Jaipur, New Delhi and Calcutta; rail isn't the quickest or most comfortable way to travel, though.

• Automobiles

  You won’t need your own wheels if you’re heading to the reserves — only authorised safari vehicles are allowed.
