The summer season gets going in May, when the evenings are still a little chilly but the days can be hot. Things wind down in the middle of October. July and August are the busiest months.
Getting there
Planes
The island has its own airport – there are direct flights run by certain travel companies during the summer, but most international flights will have to touch down in Athens and connect to a 40-minute domestic service.
Automobiles
A car will come in handy for exploring the island’s quiet beaches, pretty villages and classical sites of note – though many of the hotels are within walking distance to a town or stretch of shoreline.
