When to go

From November until March, Doha is at its coolest and most popular. Watch out for Ramadan (March/April) when the capital quietens down. April and May, September and October are hotter but fine – only June, July and August are best avoided.

Getting there

• Planes

  Hamad International is the capital’s airport and a well-connected hub for international flights. As well as taxi and car-rental options for onwards travel into the city, the airport is on the Metro system for rail travel into Doha.

• Automobiles

  The roads here are well maintained and signposted in English as well as Arabic. Unless you’re exploring beyond Doha, however, you’re unlikely to need a car, with taxis and metro trains at your disposal.
