Luxury holidays in Yountville

Yountville is Napa Valley’s gourmet HQ, a bucolic and eminently strollable town rammed with remortgage-worthy restaurants. Even if you can’t get a table at the famed French Laundry (don’t feel bad, you basically have to be Brad Pitt), you can still sample wine-country cuisine at hotspots Ad Hoc, Bouchon Bakery or Redd Wood. The best bit? You never need to summon an Uber, as tasting rooms line the main drag. Make an afternoon of it by skipping (OK, stumbling) from Domaine Chandon to Cliff Lede to Priest Ranch.

When to go

You might want to time your visit around the all-consuming autumn harvest and go just after or just before, when the weather is perfect and the crowds less madding.

Getting there

  • Planes

International flights land at San Francisco’s main airport, a little less than two hours’ drive from Yountville.
  • Automobiles

A car is helpful for getting around the valley, and handy for getting here in the first place; but keep in mind that the main roads can crawl with tourist traffic. Once you arrive, you can stash your wheels – Yountville is quaint and very walkable.
