When to go

An Giang is at its driest from December to April, with blue skies and balmy days. The wet season runs from May to November; visit around September and October to see the Delta at its lushest as floodwaters transform the landscape.

Getting there

• Planes

  An Giang has no commercial airport; the nearest major hub is Can Tho International Airport, around three hours by road from Chau Doc. Direct flights connect Can Tho with Hanoi, Da Nang and Phu Quoc; international arrivals will usually require a change elsewhere in Vietnam.

• Trains

  There are no trains to An Giang. If you’re travelling through Vietnam by rail, take the train as far as Ho Chi Minh City, then continue to the province by road.

• Automobiles

  You won’t need a car for getting around central Chau Doc, but one comes in handy for exploring An Giang’s more far-flung sights. Ask your hotel to arrange a private car with a driver for trips to Tra Su forest, Sam Mountain and the surrounding countryside.
