Amazing setting but do request a view. We had a gorgeous, massive room but were disappointed not to have a view. The great thing about this hotel is that it's an easy walk into town and there are lovely restaurants and bars close by (but don't try it at night). We loved lunch at the Royale Eatery Burger Kitchen, and Servuga at the waterfront does great cocktails and sushi. The hotel books restaurants for you and gives you a list when you arrive which was fantastic – they will cancel or switch around if you prefer. We liked Baia – they got us a great table with an amazing view of Table Mountain. Go to Harbour House for lunch – you can arrange car hire via the hotel and take a drive around the Cape, stopping for lunch here.

Here you will uncover a truly masterful blend of sophistication and tranquillity, set amid fruit trees, a herb garden and intimate pool deck. The interior has an unmistakable contemporary feel with eclectic African touches throughout. Each of the eight rooms is furnished individually with some beautiful artwork and magnificent touches, which makes Kensington Place the ideal place to stay if you want to spoil someone special. In the room everything is thought about, from a laptop, iPod dock, DVD players and a LCD TV, and Molton Brown bath and body products.

The options for breakfast were outstanding. Before you get a chance to look at the menu, there is small matter of deciding if you would like breakfast served in your room, downstairs on the terrace, or on your private balcony at any time of the day. The breakfast menu offered something for everyone, a Continental breakfast, fruit salad, a choice of four juices, full cooked breakfast, and fresh coffee.

The staff are always on hand to ensure that your stay at Kensington Place is a memorable one, whether it is to offer advice in places to eat, or lending a hand to organise your itinerary. It is certainly the little things that go a long way to ensuring that Kensington Place sets itself apart from other boutique hotels (for example, petals were scattered in the hallway between the bar and dining room). Complimentary tea or coffee, brought to your room or left on your balcony (your choice), is an incredible way to start the day. For me, it is it is the hotel's ability to maintain secluded privacy within such close proximity to Table Mountain and Cape Town that makes it a fantastic place for romance, rest and relaxation.

The service at Kensington Place was out of this world. We stayed there on our anniversary and low behold a present of lovely bath oils was left in our room after we let slip at the bar the night before. The wine list was delightful and the staff couldn't do more to help. We suggest visitors go with their restaurant suggestions which they had even booked before we arrived! 'Five Flies' in Cape Town was an excellent choice which we'd highly recommend.
