Her first venture overseas from her native South Africa saw Lyndsey returning with a bald spot, courtesy of her two older brothers, and disenchanted by the lack of leprechauns in Ireland. Aged 13 her mum took her backpacking across Europe and America for six months, an eye-popping experience that would shape her future as a travel writer. She re-located from London to Dubai in 2005 to launch the Time Out Middle East guides in Qatar, Muscat and Bahrain, before moving on to edit in-flight and luxury hotel magazines.
