All bling, no sting

Necker island's neighbour

There’s nothing pesky about Moskito Island, and the Branson Estate certainly echoes its sentiment. Neighbouring Necker Island, this private Caribbean escape is exclusively tailored to you, your nearest and dearest. And while you’ll certainly want for nothing here, the focus, mindfully, is on the small stuff: rum is savoured in the shade of palm trees, and days on (or in) the ocean are followed by sandy-toed sunset barbecues. There’s almost a home-from-home feel to it – we say this loosely because of the no-expenses-spared infinity pool, sunset-facing dining pavilion and personal chefs – but, really, this is more than your archetypal island stay. The estate takes its design cues from the elements (light, shadow, wind, water), and all exude the spirit of luxury and adventure in equal measure.

First Glance

  • Set on the northeastern edge of Moskito Island, this private estate sleeps up to 22 guests in 11 open-plan bedrooms that are split across three standalone villas (Headland House, Mangrove Villa and Beach Villa), connected by a labyrinth of elevated wooden walkways.
  • The Mangrove Villa and Beach Villa both have four bedrooms and Headland House has the final three. They also each have their own kitchen, living area, infinity pool, and hot tub.
  • Interiors are beachy and natural, and the villas have been designed with floor-to-ceiling sliding doors (that open out onto private sea-facing terraces) and grand vaulted ceilings.
  • The estate also has access to its own private beach, the Cove.
  • There’s a private chef, who will curate a bespoke menu tailored to you and your desires (including any dietary requirements or off-the-wall cravings). You’ll also have an estate team on the clock 24 hours a day to help with anything you might need.

Sleeping arrangements

  • The 11 bedrooms at the Branson Estate may be spread across three standalone villas, but all have an open-plan design, with sliding doors that enhance the outdoor-indoor living concept, and bright interiors with palapa-thatched roofs.
  • In Headland House, the master suite has a king-size bed, living area and an ensuite bathroom with a walk-in shower and outdoor freestanding bath tub. The first guest room also has a king-size bed, the second guest room has two twin beds, and both rooms have their own ensuite bathrooms with walk-in showers.
  • In the Mangrove Villa, all four bedrooms have a king-size bed and sea-facing terrace. The Treetops and Lakeside rooms also have an in-room freestanding bath tub and an open-plan bathroom with a walk-in shower and twin sinks. There’s also a small nursery room attached to the Treetops room, with a single bed and a cot. The Sunrise and Sea Breeze rooms have an ensuite bathroom with a walk-in shower and freestanding bath tub.
  • In the Beach Villa, all four bedrooms have a king-size bed and sea-facing terrace. The Flamingo Nest room has a bathroom with a walk-in shower, and a nursery with a single bed and cot attached to it; the Turtle room has a freestanding bath tub; the Gecko room has a walk-in shower and a bath tub; and the Palm room has an in-room freestanding bath tub and an open-plan bathroom with a walk-in shower.

  • You’ll also have direct access to the Cove, the Branson Estate’s private stretch of beach that houses its own bar.

  • Nestled among the island’s tropics and set along a private stretch of Caribbean coastline, each of the Branson Estate’s three villas have sweeping sea views and plenty of outdoor spaces set with sunloungers and alfresco dining spots.
  • Try your hand at SUP boarding, wakeboarding, snorkelling and surfing on the water; or hiking, tennis, yoga and beach volleyball on land.

  • Moskito Island is just across the way from Necker, Virgin Gorda and Tortola in the British Virgin Isles.
  • International flights usually land in Antigua or San Juan, followed by an internal flight to Terrance B Lettsome International Airport on Beef Island, right at the eastern tip of Tortola. From here, the Moskito island team take over – sit back to witness the atoll views during the 45-minute boat transfer to Moskito island (included in the cost of your booking).
  • A suitably Bond-like helicopter arrival is on the cards (fly from Tortola, Virgin Gorda, St. Thomas, San Juan or further afield), if 18° 30’ 40.68’ N, 64° 23’ 42 W means anything to you.
