Sleek Balearic bungalow

Pine-clad perch

Set in Ibiza’s hinterland amid a rugged landscape of knotted pines and greenery gone wild, luxury villa Can Oliva stands out for its sleek, low-slung design. In fact, it’s a property that wouldn’t look out of place as the haunt of a nefarious but rather debonair magnate. Arranged across only one floor in an open-plan design, the villa’s layout has a breezy, free-flowing feel to it – something made all the more apparent by drawing back the the floor-to-ceiling windows that run the length of the living room, thus opening the house to its terraces and the views beyond. Just past this neat and ordered world, however, loom the rolling hills of Santa Eulalia, providing a dramatic contrast between the clean, white lines of the villa and the ruggedness of the landscape on its doorstep.

First Glance

  • Can Oliva is a stylish, single-storey property with an open-plan living area and a large terrace with views of Santa Eulalia’s rolling hills.
  • The living area is furnished in a contemporary style, and is centred around three neutral-toned sofas which face a large, wall-mounted flatscreen TV. A dining table sits off to the side, with seating for up to 10. Pendulous glass bulbs dangle from the roof above, providing atmospheric lighting.
  • On the opposite side, floor-to-ceiling windows run the length of the room, flooding this area with daylight and providing excellent views of the pool and countryside.
  • The modern kitchen sits just off the dining area. Equipped with the latest Siemens appliances, it includes a large fridge/freezer, oven, microwave, electric hob and dishwasher.
  • A second, smaller kitchen serves the alfresco dining area, which is under a covered portion of the terrace.
  • A laundry houses the washing machine and tumble dryer, and has both an indoor and outdoor drying area.

Sleeping arrangements

  • All of Can Oliva’s bedrooms are the same size and style. The only significant feature that sets the rooms apart is the stylised light above the bed, which is different in each room.
  • In keeping with the rest of the villa, the bedrooms (20sq m) are modern and minimalist, with white walls, contemporary fittings and a large window that looks onto a portion of the garden.
  • Each room contains twin beds that can be made up as a double, a wall-mounted flatscreen TV, a desk, and an ensuite bathroom with twin sinks and a rain shower. All bedrooms are air-conditioned and have WiFi.

Key kit

  • Air-conditioning throughout
  • Free WiFi in all rooms
  • Large wall-mounted TV
  • Sound system in the living room
  • Charcoal barbecue

  • The 57sq m pool sits at the edge of the large sun terrace, offering the best views of the hills in front of the property.
  • The pool is unheated, and is 1.50m deep at the shallow end, 2.20m at its deepest.
  • Accessed by built-in stairs.
  • Surrounded by parasol-covered sunloungers and poolside furniture for up to 14 guests.

  • The villa’s grounds measure 20,000sq m in all.
  • The terraced area just beyond the living room is covered, containing a lounge area with sofas, chairs and a dining table for alfresco meals. One side has been left uncovered, allowing the sun to reach exotic palms and other greenery planted against the wall.
  • The ground surrounding the villa has also been neatly planted with trees and shrubs, but everything beyond this is wild countryside.
  • There are 10 parking spaces, four of which are inside a garage.

  • Can Oliva sits in the countryside just off the San Juan road, which connects Ibiza Town to San Juan in the north. A 10-minute drive to either one, it's well placed for some of the island’s best beaches, restaurants and bars.
  • Ibiza's airport is served by many of the larger UK and European airports, particularly during the summer months. Flights and transfers can be arranged with the Smith24 Team (call 24 hours a day on 03331 306 820).
  • The closest beach is in Santa Eulalia, around five kilometres away. Perennially popular with holidaymakers, it can sometimes be busy in peak season. Found on the west of the island, crescent-shaped Cala Salada might be a 15-minute drive away, but this pine-clad cove is well worth the journey, particularly if the tide is out.
