I stayed in this beautiful 13th-century chateau with my husband after it had been lovingly restored by the Hamlyns. Our romantic bedroom with its exquisite frescoed walls has remained in my mind ever since.

There is something so timeless about this Christian Liaigre-styled hotel. When downtown, I stay here – mainly for the delicious buttermilk pancake breakfast. The furniture's not bad, either…

A favourite when in Rajasthan, this is a wonderful place to escape the noise of the city. I stayed a week on my last visit and felt so peaceful when I left. I cried when saying goodbye to the wonderful chef who taught me so much about Indian cuisine.

My first visit to this hotel was spent in the company of Baci, the owner’s dog. He was an irresistible chocolate brown Labrador and we became great friends. He didn’t manage to prevent any daily visits to their incredible spa…but did join a few of my walks on their beach. Paradise.

I felt like a princess in this historical and elegant hotel – and my dog Rupert acted like a king.

I rested in this elegant 17th-century villa for a couple of nights en route to Rome with my husband. It is so grand and handsome in its proportions, looking out to sea. My dog would have adored to have been included – sadly for him he was waiting patiently at home.

This is such a charming and authentic hotel, with its stylish décor, delicious food and beautiful surrounding area. Tthe Barbara Hepworth gallery is on your doorstep, too. 

This wonderful 18th-century palace is such a unique place to stay. The rooms are enchanting and ours was filled with Marigolds painted on the walls.  

A great place to stay for a country weekend away with one’s dog.  The new forest ponies are so enchanting (so long as your dog stays on a lead, anyway!)

This is somewhere I long to visit, preferably in the fall – it's been on my list for a while.
