What are your favorite "smug offices”?
The Tower Bar terrace, poolside with crudite and iPad.
What's the most off-the-grid travel experience you've had lately?
To be honest, anytime I step away from email for more than two hours I feel very "off the grid" and get all self-congratulatory. My legitimately off the grid excursions of late have included a wifi-less journey to Mexico - we watched night divers fish for lobster from our balcony, instead of Netflix - and a few weekends in Ojai. The quietest place on earth, just an hour from LA.
Akin to Super Bowl winners saying, "I'm going to Disneyland!" after the big game, what's the one destination you immediately think of as a reward after a big launch or product release?
I'm planning a trip to St. Lucia right now, but, again, Mexico is the easy answer to this question! But immediate gratification is good too - dinner at Chateau or the Tasting Kitchen is pretty special - depends on the size of the win.
Finish this sentence: I would switch to a middle seat _____________.
if they'd let me fly with a bottle of Pressed Juicery green juice... plus maybe a glass of Perrier Jouet rose and a cashmere travel set from Armand Diradourian.
Do you have any favorite travel wellness and beauty hacks?
I wear a rich overnight facial mask now almost every time I fly (one that's not too opaque). It's a game changer for saving my sensitive skin from the dry plane air. I also love Bite Beauty's lip mask that comes in a tin tube. I always travel with probiotics, vitamin c powder, green powder and HCV pills - HCV is essentially extra stomach acid that will help your body out as it deals with new time zones and exotic dinners out. I love essential oils while flying too - H. Gillerman's sinus remedy helps me breathe deeply, protects my immunity, clears my head and brightens my mood.
Do you have a go-to vacation emoji? For example, are you partial to hallelujah hands or the palm tree?
The champagne bottle and palm frond. Also fond of the sparkles to denote the vibes.
Since Chalkboard is all about wellness, have you picked up any wellness rituals or products from your travels around the world?
So many. Every spa experience reminds me just how important self-care is. You'd think the value of self-care would be deeply embedded in my core as a wellness editor, but I need constant reminding. Some of the most valuable aspects of self-care always feel a little self-indulgent to me, but every great masseuse, facialist and yogi have served to bring me back to the power of decompressing and allowing yourself to receive. So crucial. I've also had the pleasure of traveling to some pretty exotic farms and observing the peaceful, close to the earth daily routines of these farmers has taught me a lot too.
We know you're a green juice lover (and we respect that), but do you have any airport guilty pleasures?
This is obnoxious, but, honestly, no. By definition, food served in the airport is as stale as can be. I much rather tote along a really strong stash of my gourmet hippie snacks from Erewhon and save my splurges for my destinations. I do love to have a glass of wine while flying though, which is a major health no-no, but usually too exciting to resist if I'm headed on a vacation.
