Michelle Wardley

Travel Specialist

I’ve been lucky enough to experience all kinds of travel: interrailing around Italy, backpacking in South East Asia, family trips to Australia and now all manner of luxe breaks with Smith (which means fewer hostel dorms and more king-size doubles these days). But the excitement of seeing different cultures, tasting incredible food and finding hidden gems wherever I go is still the same – even though there’s now my toddler in tow, too. And I love sharing my passion and knowledge with our members, who are more often than not just as passionate as me.

    Baros

    Photo of room

An absolute knockout of an island. The super swanky speedboat arrival, the most delicious dinners at the Lighthouse restaurant perched above the ocean, morning yoga sessions and a fantastic reef (with sunken speedboat) to snorkel. Barefoot luxury at its finest.

    The Pig

    Photo of room

For anyone who loves food, the Pig hotels are an absolute must. The staff are so skilled at making you feel instantly at home, with attentive but completely unstuffy service. I love the Bramley bath products and post dinner cocktails with a board game or two in the very cosy lounges.

    28 Degrees Byron Bay

    Photo of room

A dream of a hotel, super small (seven rooms), incredible service, the most beautiful soft bedding, free mini bar with healthy breakfast and juices (you are in Byron after all). A short walk from the coolest restaurants and bars, and of course the beaches too.

Travel Tips

I’m a big believer in keeping hydrated when flying, to help ward off jet lag. I pack a reusable water bottle, and refill it at every opportunity, and use Liz Earles skin tonic spritz on boarding and throughout longer flights.

  • New York

    Photo of room

So buzzy, so many different corners to explore and the best rooftop bars and coolest coffee shops around. I always clock up some serious steps, the very best way to see the city and visit the different neighbourhoods. I love walking the Highline, grabbing lunch at Chelsea Markets and then heading down to the legendary comedy cellar in Greenwich Village.

  • Tuscany

    Photo of room

Tuscany is the summer dream: the smell of Lavender, an Aperol in hand and rolling hill views for days. Pick a hotel tucked away on a hillside, like Castello del Nero, for delicious fresh local food, welcoming service and nowhere to be but right there.

  • Greece

    Photo of room

My top choice for a summer break. I cannot get enough of the clear waters, the incredible sunsets and unspoilt island life. Hiring a boat and whizzing around the coastline, jumping in and out of the water and picking the perfect little cove for lunch. Spinach and feta pies for breakfast, Greek salad and a super cold Mythos with lunch and freshly caught seafood with a crisp local Greek wine for dinner, what could be better.
