Our favourite rooms

At Vione Paros, bag a first-floor Junior Suite with Private Plunge Pool for elevated sea views and a bench-lined private terrace. The outdoor space that comes with Two-Bedroom Suites is also a bonus to covet.

Poolside

A butterfly-shaped, 400-square-metre main pool overlooks the Aegean, creating aquatic layers of glimmering navy over turquoise. Sunloungers, gazebos and a pool bar that whisks liquid refreshment to your side are your invitation to linger over a book (or your tan) between swims. There’s also a heated indoor option at the spa, and most rooms at Vione Paros come with private pools for uninterrupted dips à deux.

Spa

Dione Spa, a light-filled space gleaming with marble fittings, is at the heart of this island bolthole. Start with soaks at its indoor pool and Jacuzzi, before touring the steam room and hammam. On the lower floor, a gym is kitted out with Technogym equipment, and you can sign up for wellness programmes featuring advice on lifestyle and nutrition; this is also where you’ll find Dione’s treatment rooms, including a suite for two — each poised for bespoke body therapies such as deep-tissue massages or marine wraps.

Packing tips

An instant camera and a shelf’s-worth of books: this lo-fi stay is a place to keep things analogue.

Also

You’ll need to book ahead of arrival for some experiences, such as horse-riding and the curated island-discovery tour. Note that the hotel doesn’t have direct beach access, but the sands at Ampelas are only a walk away.

Children

Vione Paros welcomes over-14s only. Some suites sleep a third guest on a sofa-bed on request and for those with larger clans, two-bedroom suites each sleep up to four.

Food and Drink

Top Table

Terrace tables nearest the pool have uninterrupted views across to Naxos; or sign up for communal-table dining to mingle beyond your immediate jet set.

Dress Code

Proximity to the pool means covered swimwear will fly by day, but for evening, dress a little smarter with classic Hellenic whites or artisanal pieces flaunting broderie or crochet.

Hotel restaurant

In an airy space between the lobby and pool with a vast shaded terrace fringed by Aegean vistas, Vione by Mario has impressive Paros pedigree. The restaurant is masterminded by chef Markoulis Giannis — a well-known player on the island’s culinary scene thanks to Mario Restaurant over in Parikia — who brings his flair for spinning Cycladic catch, island-reared meat and seasonal produce into refined Mediterranean dishes, such as citrus-flecked carpaccio, seafood salads and grilled catch of the day.

Hotel bar

Beside the main pool, an outdoor bar sustains you between spells of swimming and sunbathing with a selection of drinks, alcoholic and soft, as well as light bites, between 11am and 5pm. Vione’s lounge bar is an all-day spot between the lobby and restaurant that turns from brew-toting café by morning to convivial gathering spot for spritzes, cocktails and wine by the glass as the day drifts on.

Last orders

Breakfast is served from 8am until 11am; lunch from noon until 6pm; for dinner, it's 7pm until 11pm. The lounge bar pours till midnight.

Room service

You can order dishes to your door from a dedicated menu around the clock.

Anonymous review

Every hotel featured is visited personally by members of our team, given the Smith seal of approval, and then anonymously reviewed. As soon as our reviewers have returned from this sea-gazing Cycladic hideaway and unpacked their hand-painted ceramics and basketware, a full account of their Hellenic break will be with you. In the meantime, to whet your wanderlust, here's a quick peek inside Vione Paros…

If boutique hotel Vione Paros were an implement, it would be a set of scales — the art of equilibrium being its north star. Geographically, this means marrying tucked-away tranquillity with convenience, and the hotel’s location puts a buffet of island delicacies within picking distance: quaint coastal village Ampelas is walkable; lively Naoussa requires a short drive; and sunrise is served bedside each morning.

For your time here, harmony is about thrills versus chill, dipping into curated experiences as varied as kitesurfing or clay-modelling, scuba-diving safaris or winery visits; and carving out downtime by the pool or at Vione’s sprawling spa.

Salt and sugar are held in tasteful counterpoint, too: sea views from every room and beaches in reach bring the salinity; spa therapies and picnic-fuelled hikes deliver hits of sweetness; and Mediterranean fine dining supplies the literal culinary highs. A balancing act that demands no tension on our part sounds good to us.
