Setting

West side story

The eponymous group behind The Hoxton, Charlottenburg has its finger on the pulse globally; its Berlin outpost is no exception. By opting for the leafy West over the edgier East, this capital stay sets itself up as a pioneer of cool in well-heeled Charlottenburg, and leans into the neighbourhood’s art nouveau heritage with its pastel hues, gilded and velvet furnishings, and striking tilework. Plus, a locally loved café, lobby restaurant and insider recommendations earn the hotel its tastemaker stripes.

Our favourite rooms

Each room at The Hoxton, Charlottenburg delivers a contemporary interpretation of art nouveau design, with gold-accented furnishings, a scalloped headboard and pretty-in-pink palette. For that extra live-like-a-local feel, bag a Cosy Neighbourhood for a view of the street and people-watching potential from its Juliet balcony.

Packing tips

Leave the black behind — you’re on the opposite side of town to some of the city’s iconic night clubs; in Charlottenburg, you’re more likely to be caught dressed in pastels and holding a paperback.

Also

The hotel partners with nearby gym Clever Fit for all your strength training and cardio needs, plus there’s a health bar and hydro-jet massage bed for extra buffing.

Pet‐friendly

Dogs under 18 kilograms are welcome for free at The Hoxton, Charlottenburg. There are pet-friendly rooms in each category, but we’d recommend from Roomy and up to ensure there’s plenty of space for you and your pooch. See more pet-friendly hotels in Berlin.

Children

Welcome, but this hip hotel is more geared towards grown-ups.

Sustainability efforts

The Hoxton, Charlottenburg is Green Key-certified, thanks to its use of solely renewable energy, water-saving devices and banning of single-use plastic. The team also supports vulnerable members of society through local community initiatives, such offering voluntary support with logistics and preparing donations at the nearby food bank.

You’ll find The Hoxton, Charlottenburg is its namesake neighbourhood in West Berlin, a stroll from shop-lined Kurfürstendamm and Tiergarten.

Berlin Brandenburg Airport is a 35-minute drive from the hotel.

Trains

A 10-minute walk away, Zoologischer Garten is your closest hub for train, bus and U-Bahn connections, which arrive from Berlin Central train station.

Automobiles

Skip the set of wheels and opt for the reliable U-Bahn or scenic strolls. Should you choose to drive, Parkhaus Meinekestrasse is next-door to the hotel and spaces are available for €15 a night (cash only).

Worth getting out of bed for

Following the lead of its home city (and neighbourhood), The Hoxton, Charlottenburg is a creative hub in its own right — it hosts monthly events, such as cocktail evenings and creative-writing workshops. You might find inspiration for the latter in magazine and book shop Bücher Bogen, set in a historic building under the tracks of Savignyplatz, or at listed Stadtbad Charlottenburg, a beautiful, Wes Anderson-worthy indoor pool. Seek out retail therapy at KaDeWe, a constantly evolving luxury department store, or natural immersion in Lietzensee, a verdant park that’s primed for bike rides and lakeside picnics. Nearby C/O Berlin hosts contemporary exhibitions, and the city’s big hitters are a U-Bahn ride away.

Local restaurants

Don’t judge a book by its cover: the façade of 893 Ryōtei may be grungy and graffiti-clad, but inside is a polished izakaya-style restaurant with an open kitchen, delicate sushi rolls and bright plates of sashimi. Longstanding Schwarzes Café is your one-stop shop for morning brews, all-day dining and into-the-early-hours cocktails — come for schnitzel and strudel, and stay for local lagers.

Local cafés

Modern Aera deals exclusively in gluten-free bakes, but its sourdough loaves, homemade granola and decadent cookies are so moreish that you're unlikely to notice any absence of wheat. Punchy brews from Einstein Kaffee are welcome fuel for shopping along Kurfürstendamm.

Local bars

Astor Film Lounge is a nearby art deco cinema, but its cocktail bar is quite the scene stealer for pre-, mid- and post-screening tipples.

Anonymous review

Every hotel featured is visited personally by members of our team, given the Smith seal of approval, and then anonymously reviewed. As soon as our reviewers have returned from this cool city hotel in Charlottenburg and unpacked their branded mugs and paint colours, a full account of their creative break will be with you. In the meantime, to whet your wanderlust, here's a quick peek inside The Hoxton, Charlottenburg in Berlin…

Any trip can be enhanced by bringing back some gifts (for others or yourself, we’re not judging). Like the rest of its siblings, The Hoxton, Charlottenburg has its own ‘Hox Shop’, stocked with locally sourced treats, bottles and branded merch — a waste-less ethos that favours pick-what-you-want supplies over in-room minibars. At this Berlin basecamp, you can even ask to buy the corridor’s pink-orange paint shade to recreate its warm look zu hause

You’ll also find a ‘takeaway tips’ stand, where staff and previous visitors have left notes of their favourite city recommendations. After your capital sojourn, you’ll be armed with your own list to share of sweet coffee shops, nearby boutiques and must-try meals.

And soon you’ll find that you’ve got more than Hoxton mugs to remind you of your time here: memories of meeting locals at the hotel café, over cocktails in the lobby, or of connecting with the team are less tangible, but equally rewarding, souvenirs.
