Top Table
By the fireplace beckons in cooler months; under a fringed parasol in the garden on sunnier days.
Dress Code
Your rowing unisuit is too casual, and your regatta blazer, a bit formal — hit the sweet spot with something in the middle.
Hotel restaurant
The menus at The George & Dragon may change seasonally, but classic British recipes with a French twist are their constant. The restaurant is cosy and convivial, with leather banquettes, vintage prints and a light-soaked conservatory, where each corner is primed for lingering meals of twice-baked cheddar soufflé and steak frites.
If you’re still stuffed from last night’s dinner, you can opt for something lighter at breakfast, or start as you mean to go on with a hearty full English or bacon-topped buttermilk pancakes. Sunday lunches are as generous as they are delicious: each roast comes with bottomless potatoes, gravy and Yorkshire puddings (belt loosening, incoming...).
Hotel bar
Like its food menus, the drinks at the hotel’s pub change throughout the year to reflect the region’s seasonal produce. As per the rowing tradition, you’ll find tankards of fruity Pimm’s and lemonade in summer; you could also sip a lychee margarita or hazelnut espresso martini. And purists can choose from a selection of lagers, ciders and wines, to sip by the fireplace or in the garden.
