Setting

Wholesome Healdsburg

In Healdsburg, The Cottages at Little Saint is building on its established restaurant’s beloved reputation with an ensemble of four standalone cottages designed by Ken Fulk. Maximalist interiors draw inspiration from Laurel Canyon’s musical heyday, with imaginative murals, bold textiles and private porches that strike all the right chords. A shared citrus-scented pool makes idling easy, and Little Saint’s regenerative restaurant, market and community-crafted events space are no more than an amble away.

More details

Rates don’t include breakfast, but brunch is served daily at Little Saint from 8am.

Also

Spark has been adapted with an accessible bathroom for wheelchair-users, and there are reserved spots in the carpark for placard holders. Unfortunately, the swimming pool isn’t equipped with a hoist and only has laddered access.

At the hotel

Neighboring market, events space and restaurant. In cottages: free WiFi, smart TV, air-conditioning, record player and curated vinyl collection, mini fridge, French press, tea-making kit, wines glasses and corkscrew, free glass-bottled water, clothes steamer, bathrobes and Wonder Valley bath products.

Our favourite rooms

Allow your taste in tunes to guide your decision: Court and Spark reference Joni Mitchell’s sixth studio album in their bright palette and creative pattern combinations. Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young’s nods to nostalgia are weaved into the Seventies-inspired design of Deja Vu; while sun-washed tones, teal furnishings and an easy contrast call back to The Rolling Stones in Gimme Shelter.

Poolside

A heated outdoor pool graces the shared gardens, where citrus trees scent the surroundings and red Adirondack chairs, sunloungers and candy-striped parasols flank its alluring borders.

Packing tips

Your creative license: this artistic town welcomes ideas of every kind.

Also

The Cottages at Little Saint has teamed up with Hotel Healdsburg to offer access to the latter’s spa.

Pet‐friendly

Up to two dogs (under 75 pounds) are welcome in all cottages for a one-off charge of $250. See more pet-friendly hotels in California Wine Country.

Children

Children of all ages are welcome, though not especially catered for as most cottages sleep two and kids have to be accompanied at the swimming pool. If you are travelling with tots, Court can accommodate four across its duo of bedrooms.

Sustainability efforts

The Cottages at Little Saint were built to echo the Earth-kind ethos of its established adjoining restaurant. The brand itself works closely with climate justice and animal welfare charities, and consistently supports emerging artists and musicians in its acclaimed venue. All dishes at Little Saint’s restaurant and market are plant-based and crafted from produce that’s grown at its eight-acre regenerative farm (which has also been awarded Sonoma’s Snail of Approval award). And its wine tasting room is filled with low-impact labels produced at vineyards run by underrepresented communities. The Cottages themselves have been installed with water-saving features and have organic bath products, no single-use plastic, and rigorous recycling schemes in place.

Food and Drink

Top Table

Little Saint has an events space attached to its restaurant, so score yourself a stage-side seat on Thursdays for its signature live sets.

Dress Code

Leave the dungarees and flannel to the farmers sourcing your food and opt instead for artful threads to match Healdsburg’s whimsy.

Hotel restaurant

Earth-kind fare is how Little Saint first earned its fame, and its polished plant-based menus have been rallying crowds since 2022. Everything is grown at its nearby eight-acre regenerative farm, meaning dishes are heavily guided by the seasons, but typically feature vegetarian takes on comforting classics (beet-patty burgers, spinach and fennel lasagna, plant-packed tacos). Brunch is available daily, too, with maple-brûléed French toast, fruit-finished waffles, avocado toast and Saint Frank-sourced coffee as notable stand-outs. And if you aren't quite done fawning over these flavors, there’s a stocked market for grab-and-go picnic bites.

Hotel bar

The restaurant’s emphasis on organic, farm-grown produce extends to its adjoining bar, where ‘closed-loop’ cocktails are crafted with lesser-used ingredients (citrus peels, herb stems) to reduce waste without forgoing flavor. But ultimately, this is a region that’s all about its wine; and Sonoma County’s restaurants are avid advocates for its surrounding small-batch producers. At Little Saint, you’ll find a light-filled wine room devoted to the drink and stocked with over 800 award-winning bottles from wineries run by underrepresented communities.

Last orders

Brunch is available 8am to 3pm, and dinner is dished between 5pm and 9pm. The market and bar are both open from 8am till 9pm, with happy hour from 3pm to 6pm.

The Cottages at Little Saint

Healdsburg

United States

On a residential street off Healdsburg Plaza, The Cottages at Little Saint sits around the corner from its acclaimed, namesake restaurant in Northern California’s Sonoma County.

Planes

If you're flying from within the States, Sonoma County Airport is a 15-minute drive from The Cottages. International arrivals touch down in San Francisco or Oaklands International — both are just under two hours from the hotel by car. Uber and Lyft operate reliable services from all airports if you need a transfer.

Automobiles

Healdsburg itself is walkable, but you’ll almost certainly need a car if you’re hoping to explore this far-reaching pocket of California Wine Country, as public transport is limited, and the hotel doesn’t offer pre-arranged transfers. There’s free private parking at The Cottages’ main entrance.

Worth getting out of bed for

Acclaimed for its commitment to community and care for the land, Little Saint is who we have to thank for these quaint cottages. It’s primarily a restaurant, and revered at that, but this industrial space wears a multitude of masks: live concerts are held every Thursday (and occasionally Tuesday), seasonal events fill Friday’s social calendar, and wine tastings are held in the tasting room most days. Sonoma County is laced with wineries, so should you prefer your tastings with vine-lined views, try DuMol or Reeve vineyards

Little Saint’s regenerative farm hosts tours and Goatlandia Animal Sanctuary offers additional fauna-led forays. Guided horseback riding shows you this rural region right, and during the summer, you can canoe or kayak down Rivers Edge. An aimless amble around Healdsburg is worth your time, too, with an abundance of art galleries, farmers' markets and creative spirit infusing its whimsical streets.

Local restaurants

Set in a converted bungalow, Bravas Tapas brings Spain’s sociable sharing plates to Healdsburg with Iberian staples and a buzzing ambience. Barndiva lives up to its theatrical name, with a ‘garden-to-glass' ethos that puts seasonal produce, craft-led cocktails and an artistic setting center stage. For rolling vineyard views, lauded Cyrus offers fine-dining takes on classic Californian staples in the midst of its Geyserville winery.

Local cafés

Noble Folk Ice Cream and Pie Bar celebrates the country’s passion for pastry with a seasonal rotation of fruit-filled picks and inventive ice creams. It's worth noting you’ll need to order online; you can then collect your pies for takeout or have them delivered between 1pm and 5pm. This is a town that’s serious about sustainability, with a commitment to ethical ingredients that certainly doesn't stop with food; and at Flying Goat Coffee independent, direct-trade beans are used to craft much-craved caffeine hits.

Local bars

Of all the tasting rooms around Healdsburg, Blood Root has our hearts (and palates) for its community feel, small-batch Californian wines and live music sets. There’s a higher energy to evenings at Lo & Behold, where the Sonoma terroir lends itself to creative cocktail infusions, rather than vintage bottles.

As soon as our reviewers have returned from these quaint cottages in Healdsburg and unpacked their organic goodies and locally made handicrafts, a full account of their bohemian break will be with you. In the meantime, to whet your wanderlust, here's a quick peek inside The Cottages at Little Saint in California Wine Country…

During the Sixties, LA’s Laurel Canyon earned itself legendary status among musicians. It was where Graham Nash wrote ‘Our House’ for Joni Mitchell; Carole King penned ‘Tapestry’, and Jim Morrison shaped The Doors’ early sound. Today, the Canyon’s ability to inspire has drifted north to Sonoma County, where The Cottages at Little Saint has been intentionally designed to echo its artistic legacy.

Set in downtown Healdsburg, the Little Saint brand started with its cherished restaurant, supplied by its own regenerative farm and enlivened by a community-filled events space that’s serenaded by local musicians every Thursday night. There’s a wine room, too, where you can sample Sonoma’s greatest hits.

But its recent addition of four standalone cottages is what has us most captivated. Each is named after a song and conceived by Ken Fulk, with expressive palettes, curated record collections and private porches designed for quiet inspiration. A very, very fine house, indeed...
