Setting

A beat from Bodrum

The artistic extraordinaires behind Mykonos’ storied Scorpios beach club have opened their first overnight outpost with Scorpios Bodrum – a 12-suite stay that’s set to great creative juices flowing. Perched along a private peninsula in south-west Turkey, its minimally designed bungalows (each with their own Aegean-ogling infinity pool) have restful tones to inspire visiting beatniks. There’s a man-made Ritual Space for realigning creative chakras with traditional healing methods, meditative breathwork, as well as music and art performances; and blooming-with-bougainvillaea gardens offer plenty of places to ponder your next artistic vision. Luckily, they’ve also brought their beach club to Bodrum, so you’re set for camera-ready cocktails after a day of soul-searching.

Our favourite rooms

Choice shouldn’t be too tough with just two options, and all suites have their own private pools for ample sunning and swimming space. If you’re planning on leaving the cooking to the professionals, forgo the Bungalow Mezzanine’s kitchen and book one of the Standard Bungalows for its tropic–draped outdoor bath tub.

Poolside

Each of the hotel’s suites have their own sea-facing infinity pools that are flanked with sunloungers and shaded by the grounds’ idyllic botanics. The private Aegean-edge beach club is also within walking distance if you prefer your dips a little saltier.

Spa

The hotel’s dedicated Ritual Space is set to have wellness wanderers raving; its spa is fitted with a sauna, steam room and traditional treatment rooms. But the custom-built temple is Scorpios’ pièce de résistance, where meditation sessions and ancient healing practices take an artistic spin to inspire your creative side.

All you’ll need at Scorpios is sketchbooks and swimwear.

Food and Drink

Top Table

Snag a sandy spot at the Beach Club for sunset-paired plates.

Dress Code

Free-spirited, bohemian threads work well with Scorpios’ creative crowd.

Hotel restaurant

Refined Mediterranean fare lays the foundations for Scorpios’ origin story, and now it’s bringing the famed wood-fired seafood, lobster linguine and sharing plates of glazed aubergine from Mykonian shores to Bodrum. There are three restaurants in the works, each set to put a Turkish twist on the group’s well-loved classics, and one with a central table where diners will be encouraged to share stories and chat all things art.

Hotel bar

Each of the restaurants have their own bar areas, and the group’s iconic Beach Club offers a lengthy list of creative cocktails. If you’re after something with a little less spirit, the Ritual Space's Elixir Bar offers adaptogen-packed sips that’ll have you feeling more restored than rough the next morning.

Last orders

Restaurants will be open from 11am until midnight (dinner starts at 6pm), and drinks are poured into the early hours.

Room service

Order straight to your suite, around-the-clock.

Turkey

Scorpios Bodrum is set along Turkey’s south-western Turquoise Coast, where the Aegean meets the Mediterranean.

Planes

Most European cities have direct flights to Bodrum Milas International Airport, which is around a 45-minute drive from the hotel. Private transfers can be arranged on request at an additional cost.

Automobiles

We’d suggest picking up a set of wheels for your time in Turkey; there are plenty of rental booths at the airport and around Bodrum, and the hotel has a free carpark onsite.

Other

Scorpios can arrange for a yacht to whisk you right to its coastal doorstep for an extra charge.

Worth getting out of bed for

Scorpios has a real knack for ensconcing its guests within a matter of minutes, and there’s plenty to fill your days without leaving its botanical borders. Seasonal programmes guide the activities here, which tend to include live music and dance performances, art-focused talks with guest speakers and exhibitions from rotating artists in residence. If you’re here to heal, ancient rituals, meditation and breathwork sessions are held in the temple, and there’s a herbal bar where you’re welcome to try home-brewed tipples. And if you’re yearning for a change of scenery, Bodrum’s city centre and historic port is a 30-minute drive away.

Local restaurants

Things are as authentic as they come across the bay at Maçakizi Restaurant, where Sahir Erozan and his family have been running the seafood-focused kitchen since 1975. If you find yourself in Bodrum, stop off at Orfoz – an unassuming spot between the bougainvillaea that grills fish, hand-caught by the chef every morning, and pours homemade wines from old-school carafes.

In the meantime, to whet your wanderlust, here's a quick peek inside Scorpios Bodrum…

Mykonos may have it all, but if you’re on the hunt for a summer spot that’s perhaps just a little quieter, we’d suggest crossing the Aegean to Turkey – where Scorpios Bodrum is bringing a Grecian charm to the Turquoise Coast. The famed group have beach clubs down to a fine art (it’s Cycladic sister has been shaking cocktails since 2015), but luckily for us its latest enclave is kitted out with more than just stylish sunloungers and DJ decks. Contemporary suites boast sea-peering pools and natural, pared-back tones that act as a blank canvas for its artistic residents. But Scorpios wouldn’t be Scorpios without its signature fanciful spirit; and the scene-stealing Ritual Space is this retreat’s star, with a soul-soothing temple where ancient healing practices are set to inspire, ice plunges pave the way for creativity, and a herbal bar boosts imagination. Like all the greats, this hedonistic hideaway has put creativity at its core.
