A world of its own
Meadows and markets
Rancho Pillow has to be seen to be believed – a carnival of colour and crackerjack creativity near the antiques-obsessed village of Round Top in rural Texas not too far from Austin. There are five standalone houses to choose from, each with its own idiosyncrasies – the centrepiece 18th-century barn has timeworn timbers, antler chandeliers and a bathroom dedicated to Frida Kahlo, the sheetrocked teepee has hand-painted murals, and the Love Shack is filled with free-spirited charm. There’s a pool and a firepit in the 20-acre grounds, as well as an open-air bathhouse with swing-seats on the verandah.
