Setting

Secluded Jumeirah sands

Sequestered from its sprawling namesake resort, One&Only Royal Mirage — The Residence shows that opposites really do attract. This heritage-proud outpost comes bathed in a sit-back-and-sigh type of serenity, with an intimate selection of Arabian-inspired rooms, private Gulf-gazing balconies and an exclusive-use pool, redolent from its embracing gardens. But wander along the beach, and you’ll find its all-frills, adjoining estate, proof that twice really is nice.

In rooms: smart TV, climate control, Nespresso coffee machine, tea-making kit, minibar, free glass-bottled water, bathrobes, slippers and Montroi bath products.

Our favourite rooms

Our hearts flutter for the Junior Suite, with their water-watching balconies, intricate woodwork and traditional majlis-style seating.

Poolside

The Residence comes with its own swimming pool, flanked by palm trees and the Gulf-lapped shoreline. There’s a distinctly calm nature to this adults-only spot, which is shared between the estate’s rooms and suites, but should you fancy upping the tempo, you’ll have free access to the resort’s beach club, Drift, too.

Spa

At the Residence's wellness centre (open 9am to 9pm) massages are rooted in traditional healing methods and individually tailored to better soothe your aches and pains. You can also kick your customisation up a notch with aura readings and energy, crystal and sound healing rituals hosted by the holistic luminaries behind ZenMore. Round off your shoulder-dropping session with a steamy stint in the hammam, or head to the Basiten Gonzalez-helmed salon at the main resort for a put-together pamper.

Sustainability efforts

Recognised in its EarthCheck Silver Certification, One&Only Royal Mirage’s green-minded practices started early in the design, with The Residence’s striking façade and traditional interiors crafted using sustainable and locally sourced materials. Inside, natural ventilation, bright spaces, shaded courtyards and energy-efficient layouts reduce consumption; and outside, gardens are filled with native species and rely on recycled greywater. Alongside this, staff work closely with neighbouring communities to enhance their contribution to the area — including sourcing produce from local, small-scale suppliers and donating furniture, electronics and textiles to nearby charities and organisations.

Food and Drink

Top Table

The Residence's intimate nature lends itself to scenic dining spots: alfresco terrace tables are particularly delightful during sunset, and any garden-side seat makes for a fragrant option.

Dress Code

Keep things casual for breakfast and lunch; but for dinner, the Dining Room deserves a little extra effort.

Hotel restaurant

Fittingly refined and reserved exclusively for The Residence, the romantically lit Dining Room is your all-day base. Breakfast is an elaborate spread of fresh pastries and seasonal fruit platters, with à la carte options available, too; lunch features equally delectable, made-to-order bites. Come evening, Mediterranean and Middle Eastern influences thread through expertly crafted cuisine, and the open-plan set-up comes into its own with starlit views over the private gardens.

A couple of minutes away, the wider resort houses an extensive array of additional restaurants to dine at. For flame-grilled, beachfront fare, opt for BBG; sample regional flavours at Celebrities; transport to India with Trèsind’s Michelin-awarded menus, or let Eauzone’s elevated Asian options take you straight to the South. You’ll also find light, day-time mezze at Arabian Courtyard and coastal classics at poolside Olive’s

Hotel bar

Hop across the corridor from the Dining Room and you’ll find the tome-lined Library Lounge, primed for traditional Arabic afternoon tea and into-the-night tipples. There are plenty more places to sip in the neighbouring resort, too, with the Jetty Lounge, Samovar Lounge and Lobby Lounge all pouring till late. One&Only Royal Mirage also has a private beach club — Drift — that brings beats, bites and bottles throughout the day.

Last orders

The Dining Room opens daily, with breakfast served from 7.30am to 11am; lunch from 12.30pm to 4pm, and dinner between 7pm and 11pm. The Library Lounge serves afternoon tea 3.30pm–6pm and drinks 7am–11pm.

Room service

Your host will be happy to deliver dishes straight to your door, whenever you like.

Every hotel featured is visited personally by members of our team, given the Smith seal of approval, and then anonymously reviewed. As soon as our reviewers have returned from this hidden-away hotel along Jumeirah Beach and flicked through their home-renovation reference pics, a full account of their beachfront break will be with you. In the meantime, to whet your wanderlust, here's a quick peek inside One&Only Royal Mirage — The Residence in Dubai…

The word ‘arabesque’ was adopted in dance two centuries after its first introduction, as the elegant ballet movement was seen to replicate the patterned silhouettes that define Arabic art. And at One&Only Royal Mirage — The Residence, that duality of meaning characterises its slow-paced poise and intricate Moorish design.

A clutch of calming rooms bring meticulous woodwork and traditional majlis seating into the spotlight, with private balconies embraced by soothing views over the Arabian Gulf. Outside, meandering gardens are your backstage direction to a palm-flanked swimming pool, reserved just for the Residence; and a convivial dining room serves stand-out Middle Eastern stars. Should you fancy an interlude from your adults-only seclusion, this outpost shares the stage with its adjoining, all-welcome resort, where a healing spa, beach club and riches of restaurants make for en pointe additions.
