Setting

East coast resort

Naama Beach Villas & Spa reveals a lot about itself from its name, but there’s still plenty to be unveiled from under its polished surface. Set between peaks and ocean on the United Arab Emirates’ east coast, this all-residence resort is a tempting alternative to coastal Oman and glitzy Dubai. Its private beach and pools and mod-Arabic interiors are easy on the eye, and luxe frills run deeper with round-the-clock butler service, a swish spa and nature-based outings.

Also

Unfortunately, Naama Beach Villas & Spa isn’t suitable if you have reduced mobility.

At the hotel

Private beach, gym, tennis and padel courts, charged laundry service and free WiFi throughout. In rooms: TVs, Marshall speaker, air-conditioning, tea- and coffee-making kit, minibar, free bottled water, bathrobes, slippers and Appelles bath products.

Our favourite rooms

The One-Bedroom Pool Villa is primed for romantic rendezvous with its sauna or steam room, day-beds for two, outdoor shower and private pool; those with ocean views will earn you extra kudos from your other Smith.

Poolside

The main pool opens from sunrise to sunset for alfresco dips, and its infinity edge looks out to the Gulf of Oman below. You’ll find a second pool indoors at the spa, which welcomes over-14s, plus your own bathing spot at each sprawling residence.

Spa

The state-of-the-art Merana Spa fuses ancient rituals with modern beauty treatments to deliver wellness that’s as all-encompassing as a head-to-toe scrub. Alongside your classic sauna, steam room, cold plunge, spa pool and hammam, you can also dip your toe into massages for two and rejuvenating facials.

Packing tips

Ditch the buckets and spades — this style-conscious resort is better suited to Prada bucket hats and oversized shades.

Also

If Oman’s refined coastal resorts are your kind of escape, Naama Beach Villas & Spa feels comparable, bolstered by the thrill of discovering a new destination.

Children

Welcome, and the two- and four-bedroom residences are ideal for families. A baby cot or extra bed can be added to each villa on request.

Sustainability efforts

Naama Beach Villas & Spa works towards Global Sustainable Tourism Council (GSTC) standards with its solar panels, LED lighting with sensors, and avoidance of single-use plastic. Staff participate in environmental campaigns, ocean-protection programmes and coastal clean-ups. Local biodiversity is supported through the installation of birdhouses and expansion of green spaces across the resort.

Top Table

Dress Code

Bring your wardrobe A-game to every dining spot — save under-dressing for the beach and pool.

Hotel restaurant

Days start at Aseelah Restaurant for its round-the-world breakfast sets and options to add decadent dishes such as wagyu steak with truffle eggs or lobster Benedict. Return later for Middle Eastern and Mediterranean menus whipped up from locally sourced ingredients — expect plenty of seasoning from za’atar and sumac alongside olives, feta and fresh herbs. The star-of-the-show lamb kofta is prepared tableside for that extra touch of theatre.

There’s an oyster experience, which you can also try at coastal-chic Amara Bar, which puts a tropical spin on comfort dishes of steak sandwiches, fish tacos and other sharing bites, and its water-facing setting is the backdrop for cocktail-making classes. Sakura Al Noor blends Japanese minimalism with Arabic indulgence across yakitori skewers, stir-fried plates and charcoal grills.

Hotel bar

For wholesome treats in the form of gelato, high tea, mocktails and smoothies, stop by Nafourah Lounge between 11am and 7pm; but Amara Bar delivers something stronger with its tiki-style tipples.

Last orders

At Aseelah, breakfast is from 7am until 11am, lunch from noon to 6pm, and for dinner, it’s 7pm to 11pm. Amara Bar serves lunch from noon to 6pm, afternoon tea from noon to 3pm, and drinks until 11pm. Dinner at Sakura is 7pm to 11pm.

Room service

You can dine in your villa around the clock: take breakfast in bed from 7am to 11am; an all-day menu is available between 11am and 10pm, and from 10pm to 7am, you can choose from late-night bites.

Naama Beach Villas & Spa
Al Aqah
Fujairah

United Arab Emirates

Naama Beach Villas & Spa sits on its own sandy stretch on Al Aqah, backdropped by the Hajar Mountains on the United Arab Emirates’ east coast.

Planes

Fujairah International Airport is a 50-minute drive from the resort; Sharjah and Dubai’s terminals are around 90 minutes’ away by road. Staff can arrange transfers from AED600 to AED1,500 each way, depending on the airport and vehicle type.

Automobiles

Put someone else in the driving seat — tours and transfers are easily arranged. Your own set of wheels allows for more independence, however, and there’s free parking with valet services at the hotel.

Worth getting out of bed for

With plenty of sprawling space and your own outdoor pool, it’s hard to leave the cosseting embrace of your residence at Naama Beach Villas & Spa. But the rest of the resort tempts with its padel and tennis courts, private beach with yoga classes and stellar spa

If you're feeling adventurous, you could take it one step further and explore beyond the resort (wild, we know). You could spot turtles on a snorkelling excursion to nearby Snoopy Island, uncover traditional Emirati agricultural practices at the flora-and-fauna-rich Wadi Wurayah Biosphere Reserve, or hike with local guides through the Hajar Mountains and its hidden canyons. And for a cosmopolitan contrast to your breezy, beach days, Dubai is a 90-minute drive away for urban day trips.

Local restaurants

Given the stay’s remote setting, you’re likely to dine in-resort for the duration of your stay. Should you fancy a change, staff can point you in the direction of neighbouring hotels or the bright lights of Dubai.

In the meantime, to whet your wanderlust, here's a quick peek inside Naama Beach Villas & Spa in the United Arab Emirates…

We’re always looking to be one step ahead, especially when it comes to new destinations. And Naama Beach Villas & Spa, north of Fujairah on the United Arab Emirates’ east coast, is our latest desert-dream discovery.

Sprawled out on a private swathe of Al Aqah beach, this all-villa resort takes privacy seriously. Each whitewashed residence beckons with a spacious living room, contemporary Arabic design and generous outdoor spaces, sporting your own pool, outdoor shower and terrace. And the spa is just as pampering with its cold plunge, hammam and signature therapies.

Poised between the Gulf of Oman and scenic Hajar Mountains, the hotel’s setting is striking too. Naturally, outdoorsy pursuits take top billing: after a round on the tennis or padel court, you could snorkel with turtles around Snoopy Island or hike through canyons. Dubai is within day-tripping distance, but you might be ready to eschew bright lights — and too many people — at this remote-in-feel des res.
