Our favourite rooms

Set in glorious tropical gardens, the resort’s villas showcase Nay Palad Hideaway’s origins as a maker of iconic outdoor furniture. Everything here, from the hanging day-beds to the sculptural carved headboards, is handcrafted from local materials. All the villas are soothing and airy, with indoor-outdoor showers and a front glass wall to let in the light; opt for one of the Deluxe Villas for unbeatable ocean views.

Poolside

Flanked by the bar, a row of ocean-facing sunloungers and signature oversized day-beds, the hotel’s pool is a sleek infinity number from which to soak up sea views.

Spa

Hidden away in a patch of luxuriant forest, the spa’s six thatch-roofed huts have the whimsy of a fairy-tale village, albeit one stylishly decked out with hand-woven furnishings, decked floating paths and curvaceous architectural lines. Particularly atmospheric at night when light filters through layers of tented fabric, the treatment rooms are serene and intimate. Plump for a traditional Filipino Hilot massage, a tan-prepping body scrub or a petal-strewn bath à deux.

Packing tips

Nay Palad Hideaway is all about barefoot luxury, so you’ll need little more footwear than a pair of sandals for wearing on the plane. Leave bulky beach bags and sun hats at home, too – there’ll be some waiting for you at the resort.

Also

Owner Bobby Dekeyser’s foundation supports local community projects, including the Compostela Project, a sustainable village initiative on Cebu island.

Children

Children under three stay free. One child aged 4–9 stays free; a second will be charged at 50 per cent of the adult rate. Children aged 10–17 are charged at 50 per cent of the adult rate. Local nannies and babysitters are available at no extra cost.

Best for

Over-5s; the resort’s sandy paths aren’t really suited to prams.

Recommended rooms

Deluxe Villas have a small upstairs bedroom for a young Smith. If you’re travelling with a larger brood, opt for the Superior Family Villa instead.

Activities

Protected by the shape of the bay, the waters around the resort are calm and clear - an ideal playground for young splashers. Confident swimmers can explore the corals at low tide; tots as young as three can get their first surfing lesson with experienced instructors. Any excess energy can be spent on the trampoline, or turned to competitive games of ping-pong and table football. At night, roast marshmallows on the open fire and settle down for a family film on the screen strung between two coconut trees.

Swimming pool

There’s no lifeguard on duty, but the pool has a shallow end and plenty of floats for little ones.

Meals

Highchairs are available in the restaurant. The chef will happily tweak the day’s menu or whip up something familiar for fussy eaters.

Babysitting

Local nannies and babysitters are available at no extra cost.

No need to pack

The kitchen will happily whip up tot-friendly purées.

Also

Bring your own baby monitor to catch the breeze on your villa’s terrace during naptime.

Sustainability efforts

Nay Palad Hideaway takes care to tread carefully. Water is heated by solar power, the gardens’ compost comes from the kitchens, produce is locally sourced or grown on Nay Palad Hideaway’s farm and the resort is taking steps to reduce the use of plastic materials.

Food and Drink

Top Table

Tables are set up around the grounds to make the most of the postcard-worthy setting; snag one in the treehouse for sweeping sea-and-jungle views.

Dress Code

Laid-back but chic: billowing silks, elegantly crumpled linen, the light sheen of after-sun oil.

Hotel restaurant

Chef Mark Silvestre mans the resort’s kitchen, whipping up daily-changing delicacies depending on what catches his eye in the local market. Lunch is served family-style in the laid-back pool hut, or wrapped up for a picnic on a castaway island. Dinner is a more romantic affair: head to the beach, the lantern-lit gardens or the fire pit for a three-course wine-paired feast of fusion cuisine livened up with fresh herbs and spices from Nay Palad Hideaway’s organic garden.

Hotel bar

Strikingly constructed from trademark fibre, the restaurant’s central bar has the delicacy of a bird’s nest. Order a mojito and commandeer the oversized beach bed for a relaxed sundowner or a cosy tête à tête under the stars.

Last orders

There are no set restaurant hours in this intimate setting: days at Nay Palad Hideaway follow the rising and setting of the sun and the last guests usually retire by 10pm.

Room service

Succumb to idleness and have dinner brought to your villa when the kitchen is open.

Worth getting out of bed for

If you’re aching to get in the water, make the resort’s Sea Pagoda your first port of call. Accessible by boat, kayak or stand-up paddle, this imposing thatch-roofed platform sits 800 metres from the beach – a picturesque staging point for snorkelling adventures, particularly when stocked with refuelling snacks and cold drinks. A pretty little teardrop of an island, Janoyoy can also be reached on foot at low tide, as can the pristine mangroves nearby, a sanctuary for indigenous flora and elusive reptiles. The calm waters around Nay Palad Hideaway are ideal for water-skiing, wake-boarding and banana-boating. Staff can also arrange for boards and surfing instructors should you wish to test your balance on the local waves; Cloud 9’s dramatic barrel and laid-back scene are unmissable for the more experienced. There’s plenty to explore on land, too. Circumnavigating Siargao takes about half a day – a chance to explore Tob Tabon and Bito caves, the quaint fishing village of General Luna and the warm waters of Magpupungko rock pool – and hopping over to nearby Daku and Guyam islands is a another good choice for exploring the area.

Local cafés

Siargao offers few reasons to stray from Nay Palad Hideaway’s tantalising cuisine, but if you’re after a post-surf snack in Cloud 9, stop by Shaka Siargao for a nutrient-packed smoothie bow.

In the meantime, to whet your wanderlust, here's a quick peek inside Nay Palad Hideaway in the Philippines…

An ex-goalkeeper for Bayern Munich may seem like an unlikely candidate to dream up a beachfront getaway for the luxury-starved, but Bobby Dekeyser is no conformist. Famed for an innovative fibre that transforms eye-catching designs into must-have pieces, his former furniture company excelled at redefined outdoor living. This whimsical approach is evident throughout Nay Palad Hideaway, from the nest-like bar to sea-perched pagodas and enormous day-beds beached just metres from crystalline waters. The resort may be switched on when it comes to style, but it doesn’t stint on creature comforts, either. Chef Justin Mechill whips up a culinary storm from the island’s best produce and freshest catch; tension-busting massages are administered in thatch-roofed huts; a flotilla of boats, kayaks and paddle-boards await to take visitors on sea-faring adventures. With just nine elegant, breeze-kissed villas, the resort’s mission is to make guests feel at home: kick off your shoes, throw away your phone and let your inner child loose on this Pacific-facing playground.
