Our favourite rooms
Each standalone residence at Namia River Retreat is a contemporary reimagining of the region’s country houses and fisherman lodgings. Thatched ceilings and wooden furnishings are complemented by spa-like neutral hues, in-room sunken bath tubs and sliding glass doors that open to pool-toting terraces. The River Pool Villa is picturesque with its perch on the banks of the Thu Bon; sparks will fly in a Honeymoon Pool Villa for newlyweds and long-time lovers, thanks to its hot tub, sauna and private spa room for treatments à deux.
Poolside
The curved edges of the back-to-nature pool evoke the Thu Bon River that flows within gazing distance. You’ll live out any jungle fantasies here: lush palms are the verdant backdrop to sunlounger- and cabana-dotted wooden walkways, and rocky borders contour the salty lagoon-like water into little Smith-friendly shallows. If you’d rather cosplay Tarzan and Jane in private, each villa has its own pool with equally mesmerising views (that is, if you’re not distracted).
Spa
Smooth stone walls and halo-like lighting add to Lumina Wellbeing Spa’s transcendental effect, as do sweeping river views that unfurl from the sauna and cold plunge pool. A host of holistic programmes inspired by Vietnamese herbology focus on improving sleep, boosting energy or reducing stress, and harmonise ancient remedies with high-tech therapies. Daily wellness offerings are included with your stay: try a Vietnamese breathwork and yoga class, visit the herbal apothecary to pick a bespoke bundle which will then scent a private hammam, or book in for a traditional Dien Chan facial reflexology session.

Sustainability efforts
Wellness is more than the spa at this retreat, which extends care to the local environment, too. Its zero-waste policy is achieved by eschewing single-use plastic, and recycling and composting. The resort trains its teams in sustainable practices, supports and invests in the community, and collaborates with like-minded partners and suppliers. The two restaurants source seasonal produce from nearby regenerative and organic farmers, as well as the kitchen garden.
