At Kitchen by the River, an open layout keeps things lively, with wood-fired pizzas, dry-aged meats, seafood platters and Vietnamese classics cooked in full view. Bánh By Mia is the daytime fallback — good coffee, neatly turned-out pastries and cakes (the yuzu-leaning ‘Saigon Sunset’ and pandan-tinged ‘Bonjour Vietnam’ among them) in a calm, café-like setting. Come afternoon, the jazz-scored Living Room is a composed setting for high tea: scones and macarons alongside lobster brioche rolls and salmon blinis, served with locally sourced teas.

Hotel bar

Up on the rooftop, The Muse is an Indochine-inspired tapas bar that feels softly removed from the city below. Cocktails are the focus — thoughtful, ingredient-led creations like Earl Grey–laced gin mixes or pandan-infused concoctions — paired with tapas that range from oyster platters and Wagyu sliders to Iberico croquettes.

Further afield, Buu Long Pagoda’s gilded domes and mix of Southeast Asian architectural styles make for a serene, slightly surreal escape from the city’s hum.

Run by two Vietnamese-Swiss couples, Maison Man Do plates up a thoughtful fusion menu, including Black Angus beef with Saigon pepper sauce and seafood linguine alongside lighter salads and velouté-style soups. At Quan Bui Garden, the focus shifts to comforting local staples, from fragrant pho to crisp spring rolls and claypot dishes in a leafy, villa setting. An’s Saigon relishes in the detail — springy noodles, properly seasoned rice and fish that tastes like it’s just left the water. 

Local cafés

A short hop from the hotel in neighbouring Thảo Điền, Mille Mille is worth the detour for croissants that border on architectural — flaky, buttery creations filled with yuzu, pandan or pistachio, all displayed with gallery-like precision.

At Mia Saigon, the river does a lot of the heavy lifting. It slides past every balcony, sets the pace and, via the hotel’s shuttle boat, rewrites your relationship with the city. Arriving by water feels like a seamless introduction: a short, breezy ride from District 1, weaving past barges and hyacinth patches before pulling up at the hotel’s private dock. 

From there, details come into focus. The pool stretches out in a straight, swimmer-friendly line, its emerald-hued waters offering respite from the tropical heat. Rooms and suites are an Indochine daydream of lacquered woods, curved lines and jewel-toned accents, offset by floor-to-ceiling glass and those ever-present river views. Between bamboo, hot stone and deep tissue massages, there’s chamomile ice-tea to sip, lotus fried rice and vermicelli noodles to snack on, and a rooftop from which to watch the skyline switch on.
