Setting

The other DC (Dupont Circle)

You may not be here on state business, but if you want to linger a little longer in the US capital, Lyle Washington DC is the Dupont Circle destination for you. The art deco building dates back to the 1940s, with wooden headboards on every bed keeping the ornate detailing alive and well today. There are rooms with kitchenettes for extended stays and the leafy residential road it’s on will also help guests feel like a local. At the heart of this historic hub is its restaurant, Lyle's, which is in good company with the rest of the area’s buzzy bars and bistros.

Worth getting out of bed for

There are some obvious sights to take in on a visit to the USA’s capital city, but first there’s Dupont Circle right here on your doorstep – this residential neighborhood is home to some of DC’s buzziest hubs, whether you’re in search of indie bookshops, dive bars or full-blown nightclubs. Art lovers should detour to the Phillips Collection, where you’ll find an impressive assortment of Impressionist and modern works in a Georgian Revival building. Magpies will enjoy a rummage around both Eastern Market in the historic Capitol Hill neighborhood and Union Market, which has 360-degree views of the city from its rooftop.

Local restaurants

You may be in the capital of the USA, but that doesn’t mean your tastebuds have to be patriotic – take them to Korea instead with a trip to Anju, here in Dupont Circle. Also on offer in the neighborhood is a detour to the Mediterranean courtesy of Agora, which imports all the flavours of Turkey, Greece and Lebanon, with, naturally, free-flowing raki.

Local bars

If you like your venues to be several things at once, head straight to Alice DC, a concept bar dispensing Vietnamese and Chinese street food, with a psychedelic speakeasy on its first floor and a club with a patio for alfresco partying on the second.

If you’d rather experience the US capital like a local, Lyle Washington DC is the DMV (or National Capital Region) destination to seek out. The art deco building dates back to the Forties, with its sleek styling perfectly preserved and sun-shaped wooden headboards gracing each bed today as a nostalgic nod to its past. The hotel’s rooms feel more like apartments, with well-stocked minibars and kitchenettes in several of them. Also helping guests feel like they want to stay a while are the communal spaces accommodating digital nomads by day and a buzzy bar on hand for when it’s time to close the laptop. Lyle’s restaurant is a lively neighborhood spot, catering for everything from hearty breakfasts and weekend brunches to dinners of piled-high small plates or more substantial mains. And on your desirable doorstep is the tree-lined residential district of Dupont Circle, home to many of the city’s best bars, restaurants and boutiques.
