Welcoming travellers all the way since 1680, the Lord Poulett Arms in the scenic Somerset village of Hinton Saint George is the newest in the stable of dreamy British drinking dens that also includes the Beckford Arms and the Talbot Inn. The name has nothing to do with French fowl; rather, it’s a nod to the Hon Earl Poulett, and it’s actually pronounced ‘paullet’. He’s long since cleared out, anyway, handing the baton to two experts in food, flagstones and fireplaces, with cosy bedrooms to retire to after one too many Butcombe Brewery beers.
