At the hotel
Private chef on-call, living and dining areas, library bar with books to borrow, record player, Bluetooth speakers, fully equipped kitchen, self-serve island shop, yoga mats, umbrellas, waterproofs, snorkels, kayaks and free WiFi throughout. Our favourite rooms
Each have their own charm: one is set in the eaves, under the peaked ceilings of the Main House, and another is nostalgic of giggle-soundtracked sleepovers with its twin bed set-up and attaching snug rooms. But our hearts are anchored to the Boat House, for its on-the-water perch and snuggly living space.
Spa
There’s no spa, but you’ll have access to the island’s standalone sauna — infused with hand-picked herbs and fronted by an alfresco cold plunge for invigorating dunks.
Packing tips
A love for nature and willingness to slow down — this island retreat is best enjoyed in the moment.
Also
Keep your eye out for the dates of Lilløy’s well-loved supper club — Kelp Club — that’s hosted throughout the year by your on-call chef, Antje de Vies. It’s filled with locals and visitors alike, who tell tales over polished plates of plant-based fare.
Pet‐friendly
Up to two dogs are welcome to join you for a nightly charge of NOK405 each. See more pet-friendly hotels in Askøy.
Children
Welcome. There are a selection of games and books for little Smiths in the Main House’s library, and cots can be added to rooms on request.
Sustainability efforts
At Lilløy, sustainable practices guide everything down to the final detail. The Boat House and Main House were both carefully restored and rebuilt with original wood; and the sauna and island shop were crafted with hand-collected stones found around the island. Inside, every mattress has been filled with seaweed from the surrounding waters; and ceramics, artwork and furnishings are all made by Bergen-based artisans. Everything is biodegradable, reusable or compostable, low-energy solutions are implemented, and water is very carefully conserved.
Chef Antje de Vries picks almost everything for her plant-based dishes from the island’s organic gardens (which are nourished by natural compost and collected rainwater), and anything outsourced comes from her network of local suppliers. You’ll be invited to celebrate Norway’s holidays to learn more about its welcoming culture, and if you decide to help collect rubbish from nearby beaches, you’ll be gifted a voucher for the island shop as a thank you.
