In La Clé Lodge, there’s a choice of two 35sq m Petite Rooms, both up in the eaves, separated by an intimate seating area. Book the two rooms together to create a private space for families and friends. Both include an ensuite bathroom with a shower and one has a separate bath tub, too. Refined interiors are by Jacques Erasmus and you’ll have the full run of the rest of the Cape Dutch house, including a fire-warmed lounge, communal kitchen and dining area, plus grounds that extend to a working vineyard, pool, terraces and tennis court – all with views of the Cape Winelands.

In La Clé Lodge, there’s a choice of two 40sq m Garden Rooms. Like all rooms in the Cape Dutch home, they have refined interiors by Jacques Erasmus and ensuite bathrooms. One offers a freestanding bath tub in the bedroom with a separate room for the double shower. The second bathroom offers a double shower and freestanding bath tub. These rooms have lofty ceilings lending a sense of space, and adjoining terraces offer views of the gardens, vineyards or mountains. Elsewhere in the Lodge, there’s a fire-warmed lounge, communal kitchen and dining area, plus grounds that extend to a working vineyard, pool, terraces and tennis court.

Completing the five ensuite bedrooms at La Clé Lodge is the 36sq m Courtyard Room. This large double room is the most opulent in the Cape Dutch house, with elegant interiors by Jacques Erasmus daubed in cosy, understated colours. The ensuite bathroom is especially opulent, including a freestanding bath tub and a walk-in shower. An adjoining terrace leads off to the gardens and grounds, around which you’ll find a working vineyard, pool, sun terraces and tennis court. Elsewhere in the Lodge, there’s also a fire-warmed lounge, communal kitchen and dining area.

In La Clé Village, the Manoir has just two rooms to choose from: this 40sq m Petite Room and the 55sq m Garden Suite (book the two together if you’re travelling as a group). There’s a nice buzz to the Manoir building, as it’s home to La Clé’s main reception, lounge, library and dining area, where guests gather for meals and to enjoy the communal lawns, pool and living spaces. Twin beds have views of the garden through a large window and there’s an ensuite bathroom with a walk-in shower; there’s room in the bedroom for a cot for under-2s (free) or an extra bed for under-12s (R1,500 a night)

The Village, Manoir (Garden Suite)

The second room in the main Manoir building of La Clé Village is the 55sq m Garden Suite. In the heart of the farm’s original manor house, it exudes historic charm, updated with elegant interiors by Jacques Erasmus. The suite’s bedroom leads onto a grand walk-in dressing room and expansive bathroom with both a shower and a freestanding bath tub; there’s room in the bedroom for a cot for under-2s (free) and an extra bed for under-12s (R1,500 a night). A secluded terrace overlooks the gardens, vines and mountains. Book it together with the adjacent Petite Room to stay with family or friends.

The Village, Grange (Courtyard Room)

In La Clé Village, the Grange has one 40sq m Courtyard Room and two larger 50sq m Garden Rooms. Even in this smaller room you’ll find a separate seating area, a writing desk and a wedge-thick bed positioned against a bare-brick wall. There’s individual artwork on the walls and a characterful wood-beamed ceiling, plus large windows and doors that lead onto the Grange’s extensive gardens. The ensuite bathroom has a shower and separate bath. Elsewhere in the house, there’s also a communal lounge, library, terrace and pool.

There’s one 42sq m Garden Suite in this building and two 40sq m Courtyard Rooms. However, even these smaller rooms are still spacious and expansive, featuring playful interior design and a bright colour scheme. African motifs and animal prints adorn the beds and walls. Double doors lead onto the villa’s private pool, terrace and gardens, from where there are blockbuster views of the Cape Winelands.
