Hotel closed
The hotel usually closes through February each year.
At the hotel
Piazza and garden, lounge, forest trail, 24/7 self-service shop, laundry, concierge service, and free WiFi throughout. In rooms: Nespresso coffee machine, tea-making kit, heating, yoga mats, bathrobes, slippers and custom bath products. Each room, except No 0, The Base, has a kitchen or kitchenette, and air-conditioning, too.
Our favourite rooms
The name Tiny House does a disservice to the dwellings here — yes, they’re cosy as can be, but the impact of the panoramic lake views is huge and they’re mighty stylish too, taking a cue from Japanese minimalism and using high-quality natural materials. Plus, the whirlpool tub-topped terrace doesn’t hurt. However, not all Tiny Houses are created equal; if you stay at No 7, The Crown, you’ll get the best view, but you’ll have to earn it, hiking up 100 metres from the car park. Apartment No1, The Root is the hotel’s suite, which is larger with a full kitchen and breakfast bar, but has no outdoor space or view to speak of.
Poolside
Those staying in a Tiny House have their own jetted hot tub, within which they can wallow their dreams — and it happens to have a view that looks like a Swiss tourist-board advert. If you’re looking to lap up more lake time, there are four beachy areas within a 10-minute drive, where the waters are swimmable.
Spa
The 200-metre ‘energy trail’ through the forest has picturesque stops for powering up chakras — the stones along the trail are said to give off a similar energy to Stonehenge, so you should feel invincible when you reach the finish line. For something enlightening and tightening, the yoga trail adds more movement; and for a low-effort recharge, book a massage: maybe the light-touch Access Bars method, Kundalini head massage, reflexology… And soulful sorts may find the Fire Ceremony, with its guided meditation and breathwork, ignites something within them.
Packing tips
Bring an open mind — alternative healing might not be your cup of (mushroom) tea, but in this magical place over suspended time, you might just suspend your disbelief too. Oh, and you’ll need athleisure wear to make the most of your wholesome surroundings.
Also
The garden follows the hotel’s Zen Buddhism-inspired look, with Japanese plants and a cherry tree at its centre.
Pet‐friendly
Dogs and cats are welcome to stay in Apartment No1 and the Tiny Houses for CHF35 each a night; they’ll get a welcome box with necessities on arrival. See more pet-friendly hotels in Ticino.
Children
Your little wild thing will love it here — as long as they mellow out in public spaces. Juniors aged 14 and up are charged as adults. Tiny Houses have twin sofa-beds and can fit a baby cot (on request).
Sustainability efforts
Habitat Lago Maggiore is at Level II in the country’s ‘Swisstainable’ programme, which means it’s committed to sustainable business management. And it contributes to the Wasser für Wasser initiative's projects, which aim to conserve and bring about fair use of water resources in Switzerland and parts of Africa. Closer to home, Habitat Lago Maggiore is largely powered by solar panels and is plastic-free, while curated activities show due reverence and care to the verdant surrounds.
