Our favourite rooms

There are only four, and they’re all suites, so you can’t really go wrong. But if you’re travelling as a twosome, the Two-Floor Suite is the most supremely sexy, with an antique mirror above the bed and expansive roof terrace that might be one of the best dinner-for-two settings on the entire island.

Poolside

Lounge by the three-tiered infinity pool, at the edge of the cliff, and enjoy the 180-degree view of the Aegean. It’s flanked by elegant bean bags and terracotta urns.

Spa

Get steamy in the marble hammam, or book a massage or facial in the treatment room.

Packing tips

No need to overpack: the Jacuzzi on your private terrace is perfect for skinny dipping.

There’s no formal restaurant on-site – all the better for you to explore Santorini’s cliff-clinging eateries – but you’ll wake up to a breakfast buffet each morning (or opt for breakfast in bed, of course). The rest of the time, you’re invited to watch the inventive chef at work in the open kitchen, and meals are served at the communal dining table or outside by the pool. Herbs and olive oil sourced from the estate are incorporated into almost every dish on the vast menu, and you’re also welcome to request your own favourite dishes. Feeling snacky? The house aubergine dip and freshly baked bread are especially moreish.

There’s no particular bar space, but there’s plenty to drink (especially gins and locally made tonics) and the cocktails are mixed expertly.

You’ll find Erosantorini in the south of the island, on a steep hillside overlooking the Aegean, a mile from Santorini’s capital, Fira.

Planes

Worth getting out of bed for

If you’re staying in summer, you’ll also find bean bags and popcorn laid on by the pool after nightfall, for an open-air cinema evening. When you do decide to explore, Erosantorini can organise a wealth of island adventures, from discovering secret swimming spots to private wine tastings at local vineyards, or guided hikes along sea-view nature trails. For the historically minded, there are archaeological sites and mediaeval villages, too.

Local restaurants

Hungry? Metaxi Mas is almost everyone’s number-one recommendation in Santorini: try the traditional Greek menu. To Ouzeri is another good choice for great Greek flavours. Book ahead to take in the magnificent views and equally good food at Argo.

Santorini’s the sort of ridiculously good-looking destination where eager Instagrammers seem to wait around every gorgeous corner, angling for a perfect Greek-island selfie. But there’s a way to avoid the hubbub: head to Erosantorini and pretend it’s your own private villa. Your Aegean-escape dreams will only be fuelled further by the five-star staff proffering everything you fancy, almost before you’ve even thought of fancying it. Gin and tonic? Coming right up.
