Our favourite rooms

Bedrooms at Borgo Tre Vaselle are contemporary and boldly hued in comparison with the palazzo’s more traditional communal spaces; only a few have antique furniture or patterned tiles. We’d opt for one of the Junior Suites with a terrace, which overlook the olive groves.

Poolside

The hotel’s outdoor pool and bar area is reached via an underground tunnel that takes you from the town side of the hotel through to its glorious valley-facing rear. There’s a lifeguard on hand during opening hours, from 10am to 8pm.

Spa

Set to open in September 2026, the spa will have two treatment rooms, an indoor pool, a Technogym-equipped fitness suite and a menu of face and body treatments, wellness rituals and couple’s experiences. Between spa sessions, stroll the gardens or laze by the outdoor pool.

Pet‐friendly

Borgo Tre Vaselle puts you at the centre of Umbria's culinary excellence. Executive chef Giuliano Viaggi champions the region's pantry, elevating black truffles, just-pressed olive oil, handmade pasta and impeccably sourced seasonal produce across two distinct restaurants. La Limonaia is the light-filled conservatory for breakfast and lunch overlooking the gardens. Le Melograne showcases Umbrian classics with tasting menus and thoughtful wine pairings. Beyond the table, the hotel's culinary experiences are just as enticing: learn to make fresh pasta in hands-on cooking classes, descend into centuries-old stone vaults for intimate cellar tastings, or spread out a picnic beneath ancient olive trees with a basket brimming with local antipasti and regional wines.

Last orders

La Limonaia opens for breakfast between 7am and 10.30am, for lunch between noon and 3pm, and then with a reduced menu until 7.30pm. Le Melograne's dinner hours are 7.30pm till 10.30pm.

Borgo Tre Vaselle is in the mediaeval town of Torgiano, in Umbria, a 20-minute drive from the centre of Perugia and 30 minutes from Assisi.

Planes

Umbria International Airport, known as Perugia – San Francesco d'Assisi, is 15 minutes away by car, while Florence’s Amerigo Vespucci Airport is about a two-hour drive away. Private airport transfers can be arranged on request for an extra charge.

Trains

Perugia–Ponte San Giovanni is the nearest railway station, 10 minutes away by car. Perugia railway station is a 20-minute drive away.

Automobiles

The hotel is a two-hour drive north of Rome, if you’re considering a road trip. There are outdoor private parking spaces and a covered garage on site, just a short walk from the hotel entrance. Outdoor parking costs €15 a day; covered garage parking is available for €30 a day.

Other

Private chauffeured transfers can be arranged to and from airports, railway stations and destinations throughout Umbria and Tuscany. Helicopter transfers and panoramic experiences over the Tiber Valley can also be arranged on request.

Worth getting out of bed for

You're already staying at the heart of Torgiano's wine story. In the 1970s, visionary winemaker Giorgio Lungarotti and his wife Maria Grazia transformed this sleepy hill town into one of Italy's pioneering wine destinations, pairing their acclaimed vineyard with a dedicated museum and opening Le Tre Vaselle in a restored mediaeval borgo. Today, the hotel has changed hands but retains close ties with the Lungarotti family, who continue to oversee the neighbouring Muvit wine museum and their celebrated winery, Cantine Giorgio Lungarotti. 

Beyond the hotel’s scenic pool area and soon-to-open subterranean spa, the hotel opens the door to some of Umbria's most enduring traditions. Join expert truffle hunters and their dogs (seasonally) as they sniff out the region's prized black gold in nearby oak forests or spend an afternoon picnicking beneath centuries-old olive trees with a hamper of local cheese, antipasti and wine. There are also ceramics workshops in nearby Deruta, plus guided walks and cycling routes through the Tiber Valley.

Local restaurants

A two-minute walk from the hotel, the Osteria del Museo is a wine bar and restaurant next door to Muvit, and owned by the Lungarotti family. Naturally, its locally-led Umbrian cuisine pairs excellently with wines from the terroir. In the nearby village of Bettona, Osteria Borgo Etrusco serves up contemporary takes on regional fare, such as handmade gnocchi with goose ragù and Umbrian strudel with vanilla cream. A 10-minute drive away in Brufa, Olimpia restaurant is a firm local favourite, conjuring plates of rabbit-filled pasta with browned butter and caper powder, and linguine with sweet onion cream, crispy onion and aged parmigiano.

Local cafés

If you’re in central Perugia and looking for a caffeine hit, Caffè Baglioni is as local an institution as you can get. Old-school service, proper espresso, a gelato counter and insanely good affogato are all present and correct.

Borgo Tre Vaselle is not so much a place to lay your head as it is a chance to live like a noble — in a residence that’s stood at the heart of mediaeval Torgiano for centuries. Don’t mistake status for stuffiness; the welcome here is as warm as its honey-hued walls. There’s no cool polish to its cosy nooks, gnarled beams and period fireplaces, but there is genuine charm to its authenticity — best soaked up on leisurely wanders of vaulted passageways and flower-filled courtyards.  

There’s grape pedigree, too: the hotel for many years was in the hands of prestigious producers, the Lungarotti winery, and its current owners have kept ties — notably to the family’s excellent wine museum next door. Dining, too, is rooted in the landscape with plates that spotlight Umbria’s considerable larder.
