Our favourite rooms

All rooms are subject to the cosy proportions typical of many a Parisian hotel. On the higher floors, some rooms look across to the unmistakable architecture of hilltop Sacré-Coeur in Montmartre. Otherwise, choose by size and strength of desire for a balcony.

Poolside

Don’t be fooled by the shallow ornamental number on the patio, the de facto dipping spot is actually a swimming pool at the heart of the hotel’s spa — perfectly pitched for leisurely laps.

Spa

As well as sporting an 18-metre-long pool flanked by curtain-cloistered day-beds, the Bloomy Spa is kitted out to revive pavement-weary muscles with a poolside sauna. Or up the ante and book a massage or facial in one of the two treatment rooms (one of which can host couple’s treatments). Beside the spa, Nohrd equipment, including cardio trainers, benches and free weights, stars in the timbered Bloom Gym.

Pet‐friendly

Tiled tabletops, statement lampshades and woven wallhangings bring bohemian spirit to mealtimes — your cue to dress in similarly creative fashion.

Hotel restaurant

Lunch and dinner menus rooted in French cuisine are as prettily presented as the colourful dining room they're served in at Bloom Garden. Plates are inspired by the seasons and bring palate-pleasing, inventive combinations, available in two-course formules or à la carte. Tables on the patio overlooking an ornamental pool are your summer go-to, but cosily-lit, cushion-plumped spots indoors entice all year round. This is also where breakfast’s served — a Continental buffet spread supplemented by hot dishes cooked to order. (Lactose- and gluten-free options are available). 

Hotel bar

Bloom Bar brings together mixology classics with a selection of signature cocktails that are suitably botanical-inspired. Spirits, mixers and beers are in ready supply, too, and the choice of coffees and teas, extensive. 

Last orders

Breakfast is from 7am until 10am (7.30am until 11am at weekends); lunch runs from noon until 2pm, weekdays only; dinner hours are 7pm until 10pm, Tuesday to Saturday.

Bloom House has put down roots between Gare du Nord and Gare de l’Est, a meander from Canal Saint-Martin in the 10th arrondissement of Paris.

Planes

Paris-Charles de Gaulle and Paris Orly are each around 50 minutes away from the hotel by taxi; staff are happy to arrange private transfers on request. The onward journey is slightly quicker by public transport, either taking a couple of Métro trains from Paris-Orly, or a direct RER from CDG.

Trains

Two of the capital’s main termini are within easy reach: Gare du Nord (for Eurostar arrivals) and Gare de l’Est are each around 10 minutes away on foot. Louis Blanc is your nearest Métro station on lines 7 and 7 bis.

Automobiles

There’s no carpark at the hotel, but paid public parking is available at Gare du Nord EFFIA, a 10-minute walk from the hotel.

Worth getting out of bed for

From Bloom House, make the 10th arrondissement your home: it has the tree-dotted stately architecture of its sister districts, but more of a neighbourhood feel with indie boutiques, bijou bars and coffee stops. These gems are tucked into the streets off arterial Canal Saint-Martin, which makes an excellent jumping-off point for unplanned meanders. The 10th's cultural pit-stops are Point Éphémère (for alternative culture) and the Maison des Mondes Africains (celebrating its namesake continent) — both of which have rotating exhibitions. A short walk away, Bassin de la Villette has organised outdoor swimming spots (open June to September). Diminutive food hall Marché Couvert Saint-Martin gives a taster of the area’s local stallholders. But if it’s the capital’s greatest hits you’re here for, the Métro can whisk you to the Louvre or Place de la République in under 20 minutes. 

Local restaurants

Set in a former friary, Café A has high stools and bar tables in a soaringly ceilinged industrial space indoors, plus a sizeable courtyard terrace primed for lingering lunches. Its globetrotting menu champions casual sharing platters and the craft cocktails are as eye-catching as they are quaffable. Bistro and wine bar Le Verre Volé is a locally loved institution that stocks around 400 vintages, many of them natural wines. Accompany your flight-seeing with the daily-changing menu of French bites. Small-scale producers and a toast to l’agriculture paysanne are at the heart of Les Résistants on Rue du Château d’Eau — worthy of a date night or special occasion. Here, the presentation is anything but rustic and the wine list is as strong as its culinary reputation.  

Local cafés

Some of the restaurants and bars recommended here also double as cafés by day; otherwise, you could try Maison Saint-Martin, from the team behind Café A, or Café Tranquille; both have the barista skills to meet your coffee needs.

Local bars

An unpromising exterior conceals a moodily-lit, caramel-hued cocktail den at Le Syndicat, where craft cocktails are exclusively a love letter to French spirits such as armagnac, chartreuse and calvados. Closer to Bloom House, in a converted fire station, Brûlant is a spacious brick-walled spot with terrace tables that’s ideal for mod-European plates or just mojitos and martinis till late.

Given its co-ords, it would be easy to pigeonhole Bloom House as a place to lay your head between rail journeys. And as stopover stays go, it does fit the bill, with typically Parisian room proportions and a locale that lends itself to days spent out and about. But there’s much more to this luxury hotel than convenience for train travel.  

Wunder Architects masterminded the design — a rich tapestry of gold and green hues, enlivened with retro rattan, neon-light wall art and zellige tiles. It’s a beguiling blend that transports you away from the city grit and into holiday mode. Treatments at Bloomy Spa can help dial down the urban buzz, too, bolstered by laps of the pool or sauna sessions.  

And beyond its hip haul of bedrooms — some with Montmartre views — a Mediterranean dining spot and bar await. Sipping beers and sharing charcuterie on the leafy patio, you may find your plans taking an extended track, after all.
