Styled with historic grandeur – and more than a pinch of wit – the Deluxe Rooms are spacious, ornate and cosy. Heavy silk curtains dress the windows of these 30sq m rooms, which have either a Georgian four-poster or a 17th-century carved oak bed. The bathroom is well worth spending time in, thanks to its free-standing roll-top bath and walk-in shower with dinner-plate-sized brass shower head. The enormous canopy bed was built for a bishop (sadly we don’t have enough space here to tell you its rather naughty story).
