Our favourite rooms

Ahama’s ravishing rooms and comely cabanas lean heavily into Japanese wabi-sabi aesthetics, featuring earthy tones and natural materials including jute, wood and stone, and making good use of sunlight. Deluxe Cabanas hit the sweet spot between standard and premier options. Bag the Sea View for acres of space, including a chunky terrace backdropped by Med panoramas.

Poolside

Retreat into the relative cool and shade of the forest, where the outdoor pool (and its accompanying bar) are open from 8am until 7pm.

No spa, but Ahama’s extensive roster of wellness activities includes t’ai chi, qi gong, shamanic rituals and sound baths, and you’ll be able to request in-room massage treatments.

Packing tips

An appetite to bring a little Zen to your beach holiday, making the most of the hotel’s raft of mindful activities.

Also

Views from the lakeside fitness studio — in a picturesque spot — are sure to inspire even the most reluctant of gym bunnies; there’s a bonus alfresco CrossFit area out in the forest.

Pet‐friendly

Good news for Peanut and Tiddles: dogs weighing under eight kilogrammes get the green light at Ahama, as long as they’re kept on a leash in public areas. There’s a one-off fee of €100 for each pup. See more pet-friendly hotels in Fethiye.

Children

Premier and Premium cabanas accommodate families of up to four; Deluxe cabanas sleep up to three. The Kids’ Atelier (for ages eight and over) offers a range of nature-based workshops, plus art and music sessions.

Though their full eco credentials are yet to be revealed, the signs at Ahama are good, with promises of local sea-to-table dining, a herb garden, water- and energy-saving devices, and environmentally friendly low-waste products.

Top Table

The jury’s out until Ahama opens in June, but Luna’s swoonsome setting right on the seafront seems likely to give it the edge.

Dress Code

Keep it bright and breezy for alfresco dining under the Turkish sun: boho cotton kaftans and cool, light linens are in keeping with Ahama’s laidback ambience.

Hotel restaurant

We expect Ahama’s quartet of dining options to give you plenty to sing about when the hotel opens in June. Luna pairs its waterfront setting with sea-to-table dining. Modern Mex-Med cuisine is on the cards at beach-club-like Mezkla Göcek. On Glass Restaurant is open for all-day dining and transforms into a laidback lounge by night, with acoustic music sessions and mellow DJ sets. Lokal by name and local by nature, the resort’s mezze dining spot will be open just three nights a week, serving a selection of Levantine small plates.

Hotel bar

There are bars in all three of the main restaurants, with Mezkla open until 8pm and Ege Umi and on Glass Restaurant continuing to serve until after 11pm. The pool bar is open until 7pm.

Last orders

The Glasshouse and Luna keep the (beach) party going until after 11pm. Breakfast starts from 7am in the Glasshouse, and from 9am at Mezkla.

Room service

A dedicated menu means in-room dining is available around the clock.

Address
Ahama
Günlüklü Koyu, Yanıklar, Muğla Caddesi No. 1
Fethiye/Muğla
48308
Turkey

Ahama is a laidback Turquoise Coast retreat, set idyllically between secluded sandy bays and fragrant forests, close to Göcek’s yachting utopia.

Planes

Dalaman Airport is around 45 minutes away by car, and the hotel can organise private transfers at additional cost on request.

Automobiles

There’s plenty to keep you occupied in-resort, and boat charters may well prove the most appealing way to explore the coastline’s teal waters and hidden coves. But if you do feel the need for speed, car rental is available and there’s free valet parking at the hotel.

Other

There’s direct access to the hotel via Günlüklü Bay, where private yachts and other small boats can dock.

Worth getting out of bed for

A full calendar of wellness activities is your jumping-off point at Ahama. You can go full immersion mode with a gong bath in the resort’s dedicated sound temple, or practise the gentle arts of qi gong and t’ai chi. Art therapy sessions offer the chance to unleash your inner Picasso or Pollock; while sunrise yoga, forest bathing and even ancient shamanic rituals lean in to the hotel’s serene setting.

Admire your Mediterranean locale from the water: paddleboarding, kayaking or swimming in the sheltered shallows, or indulging in a spot of watsu (aka water shiatsu).

Beyond the resort, you can charter a yacht for stylish sailing excursions to the Göcek Islands, spotting Roman ruins, secret coves and perhaps even the occasional loggerhead turtle along the way. Get your Lara Croft on at the ancient Lycian tombs hewn into the cliffs overlooking Fethiye. And set your heart aflutter on a hike through Butterfly Valley: accessible only by boat, this lush, narrow canyon is home to more than 100 species of the colourful critters.

Local restaurants

You’ll struggle to find anything as polished as Ahama’s seafood and mezze plates along this relatively undeveloped stretch of the Turquoise Coast. But if you’re determined to dine out during your stay, there’s a handful of rustic eateries scattered along the scenic coast road to Fethiye, among them kofte trucks and brunch spots-with-a-view.

Anonymous review

Every hotel featured is visited personally by members of our team, given the Smith seal of approval, and then anonymously reviewed. As soon as our reviewers have returned from this bay retreat on Turkey’s Turquoise Coast and unpacked their stash of regional olives and figs, a full account of their boho beach break will be with you. In the meantime, to whet your wanderlust, here's a quick peek inside Ahama in Fethiye…

Due to open this June, Ahama takes its name from an ancient Lycian term meaning ‘beloved’. It’s a word that’s expected to imbue the resort’s ethos, beginning with the ongoing protection of Günlüklü Bay’s rare liquidambar trees and reaching its natural apotheosis in healing shamanic rituals, spiritual sunrise yoga sessions and guided forest-bathing.

Soak up life-affirming vistas from Ahama’s forest-fringed bay, gazing out across meditative Mediterranean waters to the Göcek Islands beyond, and retreat to your mind-clearing wabi-sabi digs to cherish a spot of analogue downtime. You’ll have no need of a TV when you can enjoy soul-nourishing sea and forest views from your private terrace or window. And, when the mood takes you, put yourself in the picture with languorous yacht excursions up and down this dreamy stretch of Turquoise Coast.
