When to go

May and June bring snowmelt and wildflower season. While temperatures may be cooler and wetter in September and October, you'll enjoy fewer crowds than in July and August and have the bonus of watching the landscape embrace fall color.

  Follow Highway 14 on the Washington side and Highway 84 on the Oregon side. Alternatively, the Columbia Gorge Express offers regular trips from Portland to key spots along the gorge on the Oregon side.
