When to go

Spring brings coatings of flowers and the Thai Xen Muong Festival, while in autumn the skies put on a show for ‘cloud hunters’ and harvests bring in the bounty. But try to avoid monsoon season through June and August.

  Public transport is non-existent here, so you’ll need either two or four wheels to get about; or hire a driver to make journeys stress-free.
