Luxury holidays in Bwindi Impenetrable Forest

On the edge of the Albertine Rift Valley, in southwestern Uganda, the ancient Bwindi Impenetrable Forest has been recognised by Unesco, in large part for its legions of mountain gorillas. But alongside its protection of these critically endangered apes, the rainforest is celebrated for its rich biodiversity, rare ecosystems and the cultural heritage of the Batwa people, who now share their traditions through community-led initiatives.

When to go

January to February and June to September are considered peak season in the forest, with limited rainfall and ideal conditions for gorilla trekking. 

Getting there

    You'll have to catch a connecting flight from Entebbe International Airport to the Kihihi Airstrip, which sits at the northern edge of the Bwindi Impenetrable Forest.

  • Automobiles

    Bwindi’s dense forest is off-limits for vehicles, and its borders are ridden with rules, meaning driving is best left to your camp’s experts.
